Most overrated players in college football?

  • Probably too late but I'd go with RG3 if I could.

RG3 had some good highlights, against inferior competition. But if you look at what he did against throughout his career, you'd be questioning how he won the Heisman over Trent Richardson, let alone was even a finalist.

Russell Wilson (191.78) and RG III (189.47) both broke the previous NCAA Passing Efficiency record during the 2011 Season.

Looking at his stats from 2011 [per the attached link] as well as watching 5-6 of his games in 2011........ I fail to see what you see.....and statistical analysis is my forte. Kid is a BALLA in my opinion and throws one of the best deep passes I've seen in a while.

FYI....last time I checked the Heisman wasn't a "career" award.

Jabrill Peppers...More I watch, the more I'm convinced he is the best player in the 2014 class. Barring injury, he will do special things.

RG3 also played w inferior talent (except k wright) and did the most he could w it......he was a great college player.......will it translate to the pros? who knows he might be a future mvp or out of the league in 5 years

Overrated in what sense, I don't think Mathieu translates well to the NFL but the guy absolutely makes plays at the collegiate level, forced fumbles, punt returns, kick returns. He is more dynamic on defense than arenas was but not as dynamic in the kicking game. He would be the perfect nickel back in our defense. Just my .02.

My vote for most overrated goes to Tyler Bray as well he gets credit for being 6'5 and having a big arm, but the results against good teams aren't there.

I would agree that Mathieu makes plays except when he plays Bama.

I think Andrew Luck is overrated.. RG3 is gonna ball out IMO.. THe Colts are gonna hate themselves for a long time IMO.

  • The Honey Badger proved his status last year in NCG, beat over and over by average WR's

    wadej

  • EJ Manuel at FSU
    Jelani Jenkins at Florida
Spencer Ware at LSU (I think Ford is their best RB overall)

  • The only thing "underrated" about Mathieu is his mouth....that contraption is well above average.....

Like my father always said: "if you could buy him for what he thought he was worth, and sell him for what he's actually worth, you would be a millionaire.

  • Bacarri Rambo is overrated. Shocked he was 1st team preseason all sec by the media.

    chrisrey4

  • Denard is a product of a system. Tyrann's coverage skills are average at best.

Marcus Lattimore is one of the most overrated players I can recall in 30+ years of following college football. Had a chance to see him play his senior year at Byrnes High School as they traveled to ATL metro for a game. He was very solid fundamentally with good size but lacked big play ability. A closer look at his yards per carry and more specifically against top 30 defenses (3.9 yards per carry)...... Coupled with coming off an ACL injury..... I don't think he's an elite NFL prospect. Again, he is a good player with good pass catching skills but he lacks shiftiness and speed.

Matthieu- Overrated as a CB. Great player when he can "roam" as well as on special teams. Needs to bulk and play safety in the NFL as his play-making ability reminds me of Troy Polamalu who is also a liability in 1on1 coverage. Kid has the caused fumble record at LSU in only 2 years and he's a human joystick on punt returns but he lacks the speed and "fundamentals" to be an elite CB. His height doesn't bother me but I do think he needs to bulk up to 200 pounds and play safety as Bob Sanders won NFL Defensive Player of the Year in 2007 at safety at 5'8".

Craziness. Its all about how Lattimore bounces back this year after the ACL surgery. If Spurrier doesn't run him for 40 carries a game and ruin him, then I don't think there is a better back in the SEC. I just flat out disagree on that one.

As for the Badger, all of us think he's overrated as a CB, but with the emergence of the TE in the pro's, I'm just not seeing the 5'2" badger at Safety going up against a 6'6" TE. What's he going to do? Bite their ankles until they drop the ball?

Think we can all agree on Mathieu, wayyy overrated imo.

What's even more funny is that he himself started drinking his own Kool-Aid mixed up by the media by actually making him a Heisman finalist? It was one of the complete jokes in college football last year. Sure, he got a couple of scoop and scores at the beginning of the year but he is easily the most talked about caricature that won't amount to much at the next level much less at his current cornerback position

"That's what people know us as..ya understand!"

I agree with everything but I do wonder how many people actually thought Mathieu was overrated before we exposed him. Obviously Coach Saban knew all along.

  • 1. Mathieu
    2. Two Oklahoma players - Each one is a product of the system and also each struggled after Broyles was injured.
    A. Landry Jones
    B. Kenny Stills
    3. EJ Manuel - The guy looks lost sometimes at the position

  • I can't believe I forgot the most overrated player!!

    MONTEE FREAKING BALL!!

People were saying last year how this guy was better than Trent! HAHAHA he got a pity invite to the Heisman Ceremony because he piled up stats in the 4th quarter. I think like 20 of his TDs were after his team was up by 2 or 3 TDs.

He could hold Trent's jock..or Lacy's for that matter.

I was going to put him, but decided not too. You are right he had a lot of late TD's against garbage teams.

I'm right there with you. That saying doesn't seem to make much sense. Unless you think the Honey Badger is one of the best and most humble players in college football?

I like Marcus Lattimore. Im thinking you dislike him for real cause of his speed. Cause that is all you ever talk about is speed.

I saw Trent Richardson play Alma Bryant when he was in high school and he SUCKED Azz. He couldn't go anywhere against a top D! I am not gonna lie i told people he was gonna suck. We see how that worked out! Also gotta admit im very glad i was wrong. I promise you Trent might have gotten 1 yard a carry. Maybe. I remember he broke a 5 yard run and everyone started claping like he got 30 yards?

Lattimore made Steve Spurrier change his offense to make him the Impact player. He is a beast IMO.

And i have been Saying Honey Badger is over rated since they first played us. Actually before they played us.. I watched the Oregon game and he was not very good. He got lucky.

Dude really? T-Rich was amazing in high school. Averaged nearly 9 yards a carry and had 2 400+ games. He also was THE ONLY offensive weapon that school had. If you have a good defense, like Alma Bryant did, then you can stop anyone if they're the ONLY option.

I also think you're giving Lattimore too much credit. 3 years of putting up with Garcia made Spurrier change the offense. Now he's got Connor Shaw who can't throw at all, but is great in the option game (a Tyler Watts clone essentially).
