My guess at 2013 and 2014 Defense in base D

  • We are going to be so talented on our defensive side of the ball in both 2013 and 2014, my guess as to how it shakes out. Based on only those currently on the roster and no Juniors declaring in 2014 draft.

    2013:

    DE 8 Pagan Jr. 4star
    NT 95 Lake So. 3star
    DE 49 Stinson Sr. 4star

    Sam 42 Hubbard Jr. 4star
    Mike 32 Mosely Sr. 4star
    Will 33 DePriest Jr. 4star
    Jack 47 Dickson Jr. 4star

    CB 13 Belue Sr. 4star
    SS 26 Collins So. 5star
    FS 6 Clinton-Dix Jr. 5star
    CB 24 Smith So. 4star

2013 starting Base Defense 2 five stars, 8 four stars, and one 3 star. 2 Sr, 5 Jr, and 3 So

    2014:

    DE 8 Pagan SR. 4star
    NT 95 Lake Jr. 3star
    DE 44 Fanning Jr. 4star

    Sam 42 Hubbard Sr. 4star
    Mike 18 Ragland Jr. 4star
    Will 33 DePriest Sr. 4star
    Jack 47 Dickson Sr. 4star

    CB 24 Smith Jr. 4star
    SS 26 Collins Jr. 5star
    FS 6 Clinton-Dix Sr. 5star
    CB 16 Sylve Jr. 4star

2014 starting Base Defense 2 five stars, 8 four stars, and one 3 star. 5 seniors and 6 juniors.

This is just a sick amount of defensive talent. So if it is true that defense wins championships then 2013 and 2014 should both bring home crystal. RTR And this doesn't even factor in the 4 and 5 stars on the second team defense!!

  • I think Ivory will start at nose this year.

  • Just a guess but I highly doubt that Hubbard or Clinton-Dix are still around in 2014...guessing they will be NFL bound after this year...still very impressive amount of talent.

Just used 247 sports. This was just a throw together on a slow day. Other questions were Ivory vs Lake, and Smith vs Fulton, Then of course there are players selected to be here till senior year that are more than likely on the way to NFL after Jr. season. As stated in the OP this was based on only people currently on the roster and no early departures to NFL, this alone is not realistic but was used as a method of just showing the incredible amount of talent that Bama has amassed under CNS. The 2013 signing class is overloaded with future starters that could be on the 2013 and 2014 two deep. I honestly think that we can be a serious contender for BCSNC in both 2013 and 2014 based on defense alone. And we all know what type of star power is being brought into the offense. Times are good Bama fans times are good. RTR

  • Base it pretty easy to figure out.

Get's a little cloudy in the secondary when you start running sub personnel out there, i.e. nickel and dime. We are in those sets about 70% of the time anyway.

I think Collins has a chance to play down at the star position. I don't think Fulton or Belue can play there because they aren't big enough or physical enough. I think Geno did a good job there, but I don't think he'll ever be physical enough to play there. It's pretty evident, I'm not the only one that thinks that based on Vinnie's playing time against ND.

I could see a couple of things happening there:

We develop another deep safety and Collins plays the Star

    or

Vinnie improves and becomes a player right there.

We seem to favor corners over safeties at that position because they have to cover, but we have had a couple of physical guys play there in the past in Javy and Menzie. I'm not comparing Javy to Vinnie in anyway, but Javy started out at safety and moved to corner. I will also say that he was a liability in coverage in 2007 playing the Star.

  • i think you got "star" mixs up with "money", star usually cover the slot(small, quick WR) and money is is more of a lb/s that man te or the other inside wr.

  • Star subs in for the Sam in nickel. Money subs in for Mike in Dime.

Vinnie played Star up until LSU and then again in the NC game. He played Money in Dime all year long.

  • I think Williams steps in somewhere he had a really good offseason before he got hurt. It will be interesting to see how he bounces back.
