ND Front 7

  • bamamba1989 said...

The only real argument ND can make regarding the close wins vs inferior opponents is that Gohlson (sp?) has dramatically improved. That is true but he certainly can't be considered one of the best QBs and that's what you need to compete against us. 19-6 is still my guess.

I think it is fair to make the argument that Golson has improved. However, what qb would not look improved against Wake, Pitt, BC and USC.

Wake is 120th in D, BC is 100th, Pitt is in the 60's and USC (30th) he barely completely 50 percent of his passes. 9 of his 15 completions were to the TE or RB out of the backfield.

We'll see what he looks like against NFL players on D. Not avg players.

  • Want to feel better about this game ask yourself this ? had you rather play L S U- TA&M or Georgia again in the bcs or Notre Dame. I had much rather play the Irish than any of those. Not disrespecting N. D. going undefeated is a great accomplishment. I will also take our o line against their front 7 any day of the week the only place they have an advantage over us is in pass catching tight end. `BRING ON THE GOLD HATS NO FEAR HEAR.

I would agree with this. However, scraping by 5 times is an exception. Not the rule.

It is similar to the Buckeyes in 02. Every break went their way. Just like this ND team. They could be 8-4 just like they are 12-0.

Yep, and that OSU team beat an overwhelming favorite in the NC game.

I would rather play Texas A&M again. We outscored them 24-9 after the first quarter.

I agree they could beat us. I also believe each of the teams you mentioned finish at best, 7th in the SEC.

If Stanford can lose to Washington...who LSU beat by almost 6 TDs. They are at best 7th in the SEC. USC, very similar to Tenn (see a connectino there...good qb, 2 good wrs, decent running game, no defense...the main common demoninator...Kiffin's influence on both teams).

You have to be careful with the Stanford/Washington/LSU logic. You'd be amazed the places that would take you. USC would absolutely stomp Tennessee. Hey, I hope ND is way overrated. I hope we knock em over and it's a joke. I just get that feeling the final score will be closer than I want it to be. Those offenses they squashed aren't exactly chopped liver. Of course none of them had the run game that we have, but we'll have to run to be successful.

  • The key to beating a 3-4 is to run right at them, chipping the front guys and mowing down the linebackers.

Georgia gave us great NCG practice.

    PepaSpray

  • But they are12-0........has the luck stopped yet???.............reason for concern.........on paper we should beat the crap out of them......
But has their luck run out and they are down to playing?

You don't have to tell me. I live in Ohio and was in Columbus for that game.

This ND team is not in the same vicinity talent wise as that OSU team. And I mean not close.

May not know early, may be the second half when reality kicks in for them.

Agree, just don't think they have the depth to keep from wearing down to the running game in the 2nd half.

I totally disagree that USC would smash Tenn. If Tenn can hang with UF til the 4th, only lose to UGA by 3, and only lose to South Carolina by 3 they aren't getting smashed by a team that doesn't play any D.

USC beat two bcs teams all year that are going to a bowl. That includes Wash (in a close game) and Arizona St (who Missouri beat).

Does USC win? Probably, but when your best win of the year is a 10 point win over a 7-5 Washington team. I have a hard time believing they would stomp anyone in the SEC when they could only beat Syracuse by 13..

  • Does BAMA have trouble with mobile QBs? Does BAMA have trouble getting stops on third down? Just wondering where y'all are seeing this huge advantage. We have played three good teams. We won at the end in one, lost one at home, and then won an extremely close one against the third. All three games could have gone either way. I'm ecstatic that we are in position for the title in what to me was a rebuilding year, but I don't see why this won't be a close game.

Didn't have any problem with Denard Robinson.

The last 4-5 years we have had trouble with a handful of mobile qbs. 3 of them won the Heisman trophy. I would say we weeren't the only ones to have problems with those guys. We have done a good job against mobile qbs more than we have done a bad job.

2 of the 3 teams that played us tough this year had statues for qbs.

Notre Dame won at the end of nearly all of their games. Even against bums. That is where the confidence comes from. That and we beat the team they were outgained by and had to have 6 TO's to beat by a td by 4 tds and it could have been far worse than that considering it was 31-0 midway through second qtr.

Could this game be close. Absolutely. But the past doesn't suggest it will.

For the record. We have played more than 3 good teams. With that logic, ND has played one and had to win in OT by a terrible call by the ref.

The thirdd best team on their schedule we absolutely destroyed. They were outgained in all phases.

  • We aren't the same team now. We have had multiple injuries to key players since that game. Fowler, White, Bell, Hart, etc. I think we win. But it's going to a war.

    BabyrayS2k

  • Frankly, I'm done buying the hype that we're just going to blow opponents out of the water. I'm thrilled that we're back in the NCG and I think we have the better team... but anyone can win in games like this and we've proven we're beatable. Beatable by Notre Dame? I don't know, but it will be a great match up.

    VegasTide

  • Have been watching a lot of video of Notre Dame, and I be shocked if we don't move the ball very easily against them.

Well...that's another spot you and I differ. I didn't we would blow out any of the 3 teams we had trouble with this year. BUt IMO, those 3 are on another level than ND. I never bought the hype you are referring to.

And anyone that doesn't think we are beatable is crazy. Every team is beatable. YOu have not heard that posted from me.
