NFL.com writer predicts Jesse Williams will be a combine star

I have a feeling there's going to be a huge buzz about him after he hits the media room.

  • I am quietly pumped but we have looked bad at the combine lately other than Julio and Kareem

  • I could be wrong, but I remember hearing about Jesse putting up 225lbs 60+ times around the time of last year's combine.

I agree. We have had a lot of kids under perform at the combine. Maybe our expectations are too high for them, but they are getting out performed by other players. I'm hoping that we can turn the corner on the combine performances.

I don't believe most of our players have needed to perform to improve their draft positions...you can focus on the combine performance or you can focus on being ready for the NFL come mini camp. Trent didn't need to bench 225 50 times for anyone, nor run a sub 4.5 40....same goes for Barron. Julio helped himself because he was always labeled first as a physical receiver and his athletic abilities rarely came into the conversation so he proved what he had; I think Jessie will benefit from a good combine; Barrett as well. For me the only guy that has let his guard down in the last few years was Upshaw last year.

So anybody who does well at the combine suffers at training camp? Silly statement.

That's verbatim what you said. I can't find any other way to interpret "you can focus on the combine performance or you can focus on being ready for the NFL come mini camp". Clearly not mutually exclusive concepts.

  • Do we really need to have an argument on every single thread? Maybe he meant differently then you interpreted... Not a huge deal either way. I don't understand why some people are offended so easily

i dont think anybody thinks the number of bench reps or 40 times will have a long term bearing on the guys nfl careers...its entertaining for fans to speculate on these things. its like the ole 'looking ahead of the opponent' arguement where we fans have a bearing on the game by what we post on a message board

yea, you are right, but if you outperform the competition on that stage you are surely to raise an eyebrow or two, especially if you are not a player that has had a lot of TV, media type exposure over the course of his career.
