New team same ol Gottfried

  • NC State blows a 20 point 2nd half lead to lose at Duke.

  • His roster is stacked. Only reason they have a 7-4 conference mark.

    Don't tell NCSU fan though

They look like those mid 2000's teams we had with Gee, Felix, Hendrix, Davidson, Steele etc.

Yup. Tons of talent, but still a double digit-losses/2nd round exit team.

Ha. I wouldn't call it a stacked roster but that being said we do have 4 really talented kids. I'm happy with CMG being here and I'm hoping he gets that "fire" back from being away. That was a horrible last possession play call though.

Get used to those horrible last play calls. He doesn't make a call, he just hopes he has somebody that can break down the defense and create a shot. We saw that for years with Mo Williams, Rod Grizzard, Kennedy Winston, Ron Steele. Oh, and you can forget about ever scoring off of an inbounds play.

Things can change and I hope they do. With the '13 incoming class I'm hoping that talent can outshine his lack of set play calling. We did look great against Duke for the majority of the game.

He can recruit with the best of them, no doubt.

That and TR Dunn are why he won an SEC title and made the Elite Eight at Bama.

Very true. I'm very excited about the talent we are/can bring in with CMG, Orlando Early, and Rob Moxley on staff. I just hope that talent translates into wins.

    NcsuBama

  • TR not on the staff when we made the Elite Eight. He was only there for one year. Please get your facts straight.

Get ready to live with highly-talented, underacheiving teams. Your only hope is that Gottfried picks up something from Coach K and Roy Williams through osmosis.

He probably means a better conference record in a much tougher conference and a better overall record with a tougher schedule. Just a guess.

  • I love the responses about how NC State is stacked with talent. They were so talented last year that they went 15-16. They hadn't won more than 6 acc games in 5 years. They sit at 7 acc wins with lots more to go. Every single starter is averaging double figures after most were averaging 7 points a game last year. Plus if not for fouls and having to sit half the roster for the 2nd half they win that game. People in NC State are happy because they see progress. They also see a coach who for once isnt afraid to challenge Duke and UNC on recruits.Should they have won last night, yes. But that is the learning curve. Also UNC lost a 10 pt lead with 2 to go against Duke there. People seem to forget that duke is a good team. I'm not saying that Gottfried deserves to be here, and yes he deserved to get fired. But he played for us, gave us some great years in Bball and like Lucky I don't hate the guy. Things didn't work out here and maybe he learned some things. People grow as coaches and like Shula I wish him well and hope he prospers. If you don't like him move on, he has as well.

Well hopefully for your sake NCSU will realize their mistake and find a good coach before all of that talent is gone.

They have a better record. We have the better RPI, tougher SOS, SEC has a higher conference RPI than ACC. Not a good guess. At this point they are barely projected in the NCAA tournament if at all. Their best win is against Texas and their wins in the ACC are against the bottom of the league.

They have one top 50 win. We have one top 50 win. We haven't beaten a top 50 team since the first week of the season. It's not like we are playing amazingly well.

We have 2 top 50 wins. Purdue and Wichita St. Anything else you want to be wrong on?

    scott713h

  • Purdue just made the top 50 this week. Also sorry nc state has two as well. You are right though we are killing it. Two top 50 rpi wins both in the the first two weeks of the season. I am not trying to compare teams, but you can't point to one win over the last two months at Alabama that would be considered a big win. Sorry those are the facts. This is the same argument our fans were pointing to last year with UGA and how it was flawed.

At what point did I ever say we were playing well? I just stated the true facts throughout this whole thread and corrected a couple of yours and you put words in my mouth. Nice argument...

'Sup Coach Gottfried. Good to know you've got a BOL subscription. If you think the SEC is a tougher conference than the ACC, you're drunk. Kentucky skews the entire conference's rankings. Surely you're smarter than that.
