Ten Alabama players who will compete for prominent roles this spring ...

    Travis Reier

  • Great list Travis, would have had to give you grief if I didn't see Dalvin T on your list...I believe he's has the potential to provide something we haven't seen in the four down looks as he apparently excels at being allusive and getting off blocks...going to watch for reports about him ll spring.

  • I'm interested to see how ivory and the NT position come along. We saw a pretty noticeable drop off when Jesse came out last season and I'm not smart/educated enough to know why that was.

  • I like that a guy like Brown is gonna have to likely fight for the spot. Makes me feel better about depth overall.

I agree. One of the biggest reasons I wished we could have landed another JUCO here in the past couple of classes signed.

  • Where does Lamichael Fanning fit in? I would thinks its you know what or get off the can time for him?

    TidefaninMO

  • Great analysis TR. I wonder if Devall will see the field more often this year. He's been my favorite besides Landon.

  • I really hope Adam Griffith come on and becomes a great kicker for us. Seems like every kicker we sign turns to crap when they put on the Crimson Jersey.

I agree, but he certainly didn't look like that was going to be the case watching him in warm ups all year...he played on as big a stage as there was in HS so hopefully he will shine. He's got incredible height and most kicks make you go wow when they leave his foot.

  • I thought Shepherd next best OL this year (with the exception of the center) if anyone went down. Could be wrong though.

I wonder if the "loser" of the Shepherd/Brown battle at RT kicks inside to the open guard position (L or R depending on Steen staying RG or moving to LG).

I believe Arie is going to be a tough out at LG.

Either way it's going to be fun to watch and you can't get too much depth on the OL. Which reminds me of how lucky Bama's been over the last few years injury-wise on the OL. Beyond CyKo has their been a significant injury on the OL in the last 5 years. I remember Johnson's high ankle sprain and Andre Smith's brain damage. I think some guys have missed a game or two but no season enders.

  • I think ivory will be just done

I think it's now or never for fanning with the young guys breathing down his neck and Dickson possibly moving to end

I thought Ivory was solid. The biggest dropoff came against UGA when both he and Williams were hurt and Square was forced to play some on the nose. Between Ivory and the continued development of Lake, I think they'll be OK there.

  • No doubts. I think the lack of a large number of injuries on the line is a huge statement for our conditioning program and to Cochran...most injuries in the trenches occur when you get fatigued and slow down and your feet stop moving...you're going to get banged up playing those positions, but how many times that last 4 years do you remember an OL laying on the ground during a game? Not too often.

Could be. I think Shepherd is a right side guy either way (guard or tackle). He's not as versatile as McCullough but I think he can be a solid Drew Davis-type at RT. Question is, in Brown, has UA recruited beyond Shepherd's skill set? We'll see in the spring.

Thought about putting Devall on the list, but, really, he's already "up". Thought he handled Manziel in space better than Hubbard or Dickson.

He's in that mix with Tomlinson. Needs to be a top four DE coming out of spring.

  • Great feature Travis, really excited to see who steps into starting roles, ton of competition this spring.

Really? EVERY kicker we sign turns to crap. Was I imagining it when Shelley didn't miss a kick last year and made five....count 'em FIVE....FGs in the BCSNCG against LSU?

Sure, Cade Foster had his struggles, but you make it sound like we miss more FGs than we make.

FYI, Shelley was not a signee.

  • Great conversation, Fanning is my pick of all to watch this spring. So much raw potential with him, hope he starts putting it together.

    T boy

  • Re: Cade Foster. Saw a tweet/pic over the weekend of him taking a lesson from Morten Andersen. Not a bad guy to get to check out your form. Maybe being able to kick something shorter than 48 yarders will help his confidence. He hasn't had the easiest job the past few seasons.

  • Would love to see CK & AK anchor the left side. Also, with his wrestling background when Dalvin starts slamming opponents I'm naming him DDT.
