Notes: Holtz enjoys Tide clinic

Lou Holtz calls Nick Saban greedy in a good way, once again the defense is focussing on improving its turnover numbers, and the latest on Duron Carter:

  • Holtz is an awesome speaker. He spoke at my firm's annual training event last year &, I mean, I was shocked at how good of a job he did.

  • Jokes aside about "Dr. Lou," I really enjoyed what he had to say about the program. I'll always laugh a little when he is on TV, maybe even change the channel. But anyone who is as passionate about the game and what we're doing in Title Town is alright by me.

  • "When a guy like Nick Saban calls, and plus I got an opportunity to come up here and see them practice, etc., see how they do things, and I share them with my son, the differences I see here."

Man, being on top...it never gets old!

  • Copy/Pasted from my other post in another article pertaining to Lou:

I know that everyone gives Holtz a hard time for the way he talks, but if you've ever heard him do one of his motivational speeches, there aren't too many that are better. He makes a whole lot of money doing his speaking engagements.

I saw him when I was on a recruiting trip to USCe. He did about a 20-30 minute speech about taking the tools that are given to you and creating something beautiful utilizing those tools. At the beginning of the speech, he showed the crowd a single piece of plain paper by stating, "Even if all you have is this little piece of paper, you can create something wonderful." He went on for 20 minutes or so and would look down occasionally. At the end of the speech, he held up the same piece of paper and had created a butterfly thing w/ the paper and stated (paraphrased), "Not everyone can create something beautiful, but everyone has tools and opportunity."

  • "You can see it the way they practice out there, they just don’t want you to make a yard. Some people don’t want you to make a first down, not Nick.”

We had another coach who was the same way - Coach Bryant and Coach Saban are very much alike.

I posted about the similarities between Coach Bryant and CNS on the Blue Board and didn't get much response from the SEC fans there but the Pac10, B1G and whatever they are calling the Big12 now fans were all "No way.. Saban has lost games... there is no way that he can be compared to Bear Bryant. Alabama is just on a temporary run with CNS, not like the Bryant years"...

Those who have to face the CNS led Tide regularly in the SEC know what the rest of the country is either too uninformed or to afraid to admit.... but their time is coming as we keep playing bigger and bigger OOC opponents. This program is as good as it has ever been and getting better.

    Roll Tide!

  • I worked with coach Holtz for over a year and he is class all the way. Seemed like when he didn't like something I had done in my work he would take the chance to "coach me up". I loved it, awesome experience.

  • I really have enjoyed Lou Holtz, listening to him on ESPN, and as an SEC HC, just don't sit next to him while you are listening. You will need a towel.
