Ed its not about what other teams are doing its what Bama is doing and not doing, lack of player development, inept offense for several years I can see why T Mitchell got frustrated. Its no way I would send my son to play for Grant with the product he is putting on the floor........

Alabama is 6-3 in conference play and in a good position to make the tournamnet. The only people discussing firing coach Grant are the basketball geniuses on this board. He wont be fired and he will succeed. Carry on with your bitch fest.........

Hipsher is not the problem. He is the best assistant on the staff, but Grant won't let him coach. A lot of people that are insiders to the program have said this over and over. You don't just fire someone because they are the oldest person on staff, that's illegal.

Also, to say Haith is better than Grant is comical. Haith is an absolute good and Missouri will reflect that when Mike's guys have moved on.

This is true that Grant will not let Hipsher coach. I know someone who is good friends with Hipsher and he is very frustrated with Grant.

Florida got crushed by a mediocre arkansas team. Kentucky lost at home to a&m. I guess it makes sense to fire a coach who is 6-3 in conference play and a game out of second place.

W-L loss means NOTHING. The product quality is TERRIBLE.

There was a GREAT opportunity for CAG to ride the wave of the NIT tourney a few years ago: excitement was building, the fanbase was excited and supportive. However, after getting to the NCAA and looking bad in the process, then seeing this team not being able to dribble, ,pass, shoot, or rebound, we see complete regression. The fanbase is eroding due to the simple lack of quality basketball being produced. The opportunity CAG had was blown...they don't come around that often, and he messed up.
Tons of $$$$ and recruits going out the window along with it.

Wanna see fannies in the seat? Get a Pearl in here, or anybody with a fast paced, offense oriented basketball program that ALSO plays solid defense and hustles. A GREAT coach doesn't need GREAT players to put a good product on the floor: just needs to know what he's doing and be confident enough to handle different types of players. Can you imagine what Coleman would be like, full to the rafters and loud night after night, without excuses? It CAN happen with the RIGHT program. CBP would be a GREAT hire---but not the only option; however, the next coach had best simply be able to COACH and get the fans excited due to what they do on the court. No struggling to win by holding the ball and standing around, praying that somehow the other team can be held to under 50 due to our own anemic offense.

RTR. I love basketball. Alabama has a rich basketball history, despite what the haters want us to believe (you know, the "football is king, basketball doesn't matter" people), and we deserve a top tier, exciting Basketball program that makes the NCAA nearly every year with rare exceptions (injury, for one) but MAINLY: THAT PLAYS AN EXCITING, COMPETENT form of basketball that fans and students WANT TO WATCH!

At no point did I say it's legal to fire someone because they're old. I implied that, in many cases, the dinosaurs on a staff are "allowed" to retire or find other opportunities because coaches and AD's think that it's the right political move to buy a coach time.

I agree Hip is the best coach on the staff, but if we're at this point in Grant's tenure and "he won't let him coach" what does that tell you about Hip's importance on this staff or his job security? Hell, if that's happening, and I agree with you because I've heard the same things, I can't imagine why he'd want to stay in the middle of this train wreck.

Tom Asbury was one of the best coaches XCMG ever had on staff, but he got the hell out of dodge before the posse got to town. CMG surrounded himself with his core group of idiots and held on tight until the final days.

If this team continues to play this way, I can almost guarantee someone will be sacrified by the end of the year. I doubt it will be Brannen. Possibly Pujol, but doubtful.

I attended an open scrimmage earlier this year. Brannen and Hipsher "coached" the two squads while Grant and Pujol sat across the court with their whistles in their hands staring off into space. That should tell you who the brains behind the operation are.

Oh come on. You actually think he is a good coach? It is pretty evident he is not. Our team is getting worse and our fundamentals are horrible. Also this is the worst the SEC has been in years so the conference record means jack when you lose to MERCER, TULANE, and AUBURN. I dont care if we beat a weak UK team this year cause a blind squirrel finds a nut every now and then but it seems that bad teams (blind squirrel) find their nut when they play us. Also you dont struggle with teams like Charleston Southern and lose to teams above if you are a good team with a good coach.

Do you honestly think the game last night was acceptable for a coach making $2 million a year? Regardless of other teams, are you ok with the product we've put on the floor to achieve that 6-3 record? Tell me without hesitation that you think Grant is the coach who will get us to the next level. If not, why are we wasting time and money with mediocrity?

Our football team is on a historic run. Our fanbase and national brand is reaching an all-time high. This is the time we should be striking while the iron is hot to become a premiere ATHLETIC DEPT. What I witnessed last night (and for most of this season) is doing nothing to change the perception that we only care about 1 male sport at this school.

    Not sure if serious.

We were on the "first four out" list before the loss to AU. We will not make the big dance unless win out or win the SEC tournament. Neither of which will happen.

  • If anyone has watched this team play and think that we actually belong in the NCAA tourney, then you are kidding yourself. I'm not blaming anyone specifically, but I think this is the worst Bama team I have ever seen.
Our SEC record is just fool's gold. It's embarrassing to watch really.

    scottypip

  • You mean the coach who also lost at home to Tulane? And Mercer?
The one who got run out of the gym against his former team and coaching understudy?
The coach whose team has managed to break 59 points exactly 3 out of 9 times in SEC play? And the 6 of 9 where they failed to get out of the 50's just happened to be the last 6 games in a row? (clearly showing no signs of progress on that end)
The guy whose team also failed to break 60 in HALF its games this year?
Or is this the coach who appears to be on track to make the NCAA Tournament exactly ONE out of four years?
The coach who failed to win an 8/9 matchup in the ONE year he did make the tournament?
The coach who has somehow failed to recruit and develop ONE capable post player in the four years he's been here?
Are we talking about the coach who manages to let his team go 10-minute stretches without scoring a point (literally - without a single point) without so much as calling a timeout or putting his best player back into the game?
The coach who allows his team to get to the point of being sexually violated on the floor without leaving his chair, let alone actually speaking to an official or....dare I say it, showing enough fire to warrant a technical foul?

Just making sure we're speaking of the same coach. I may be confused.

I think I'll use my first post to agree with this. Plus it's just damn funny clap

It's easy to sit at home and say fire the coach (I'm with you on that, btw) but who can we honestly get to come to TTown that is better?

  • Ed I'll take what you are smoking lol!! good position to make tourney pleeze!! This is the weakest the SEC has been in years and still can't make any noise!

I think if Grant fired anyone it would be Hipsher. He's the oldest coach on the staff and is the easiest scapegoat. But I'm not certain any of them know what the hell they're doing offensively.

If Hip had a clue, don't you think he'd have had some kind of influence by now. They all need to be gone at the end of the year if the product doesn't improve.

Or...if you think you can get Pearl when his show cause is over, start making moves behind the scenes now and have a plan in place to get him when you can again (either by keeping Grant until that time or by putting together an interim skeleton staff next year.) I'd be fine with another year of Grant if it meant we could absolutely get Pearl the next season.

The reality is, Alabama isn't going to hire an upper echelon coach. We ain't getting Brad Stevens, Mark Few, Jay Wright, etc. And we certainly ain't getting anyone better than that group.

Unless you go the mid-major route again and hire someone like Shaka Smart, who honestly probably has bigger fish to fry down the road than us anyways, a guy on the rebound like Pearl is probably our best option. Almost everyone in the league has upgraded. Cal, Donovan, Stallings, Haith, and Martin are all better than Grant. The rest are about even with him.

We need someone dynamic who will sell this program. Someone with energy. I thought Grant was that guy but clearly he is a statue on the bench. Not a media savvy guy either. This program is on life support and is a year or two away from being Auburn or UGA. Dead.

    Agree here.
