Lucky, I appreciate your sentiment, but at Alabama we have a history of brilliant fan suggestions. You seem to be forgetting masterpieces like the fax campaign for Mike DuBose, the uproar over losing Mike Price, and the sentiment to fire Mal Moore when Rich Rod backed out.

If you'll just back off and let the fans do what they do best, then we'll pick a great staff. I wonder if Charlie Weiss is available?

  • I'm always amazed how fans think they have an ownership in the program or are the only ones who should be pleased. This board had people voting on what music to play at the games even though tens of thousands of fans in attendance enjoyed it.

I might as well say what's on my mind. So here goes...

I love the message boards and I love debating and discussing Alabama and college sports with you guys. Everybody knows I make my living doing this and I am so blessed to have this opportunity and so thankful that you guys support BOL.

But, come on BOLers?!?! I have read message after message with posters adamantly stating their position on these assistants and why some should be considered and why others have NO chance of being considered and it is utterly vile to mention their names.

Come on... With all due respect. These are business hires. I've run a business for more than 15 years and at one time oversaw 300+ employees. If a group of people banded together to tell me who I should hire for my "executive team" I would literally throw up in my mouth. Saban is the CEO of the Alabama football team. He is responsible for all staff hires. He knows what he wants to do with the program and his track record is as good as it gets.

And I can tell you for a fact that many of you are totally misguided on how Saban feels about some previous staffers. I'm seeing this with more than a few of the names mentioned and it is just wrong.

It is one thing for us to discuss the merits of all the candidates and whom we believe would be most beneficial to the program, but come on with all of the matter of fact posts that "candidate X," or "candidate Y" would never be considered because of past issues is getting out of hand. Some of you guys are taking coaches that could/will be legitimate candidates to the woodshed with few facts in hand.

You can do what you want, but unless you have a direct line with Saban, I would be careful ripping into any current assistant coaches previously or currently linked to Alabama.

    Just sayin ...

I agree with the fundamental point of your post

But to respectfully debate the other side of the argument, there are some fans who really do care about the "goodness" of the person under the jersey (or in this case - the coaching shirt) for who we root and give our allegiance. I think that may be even especially true for some fans who attended the university and have a genuine veste interest in wanting those who represent that university on this highly publicized stage to not only be good players/coaches, but good people as well. For the record - I am not an alum of UA, but simply speaking from observation of friends/family who are.

To that end, I can respect those who don't swallow their integrity and blindly cheer for a player/coach who may otherwise not be good respresentatives of UA.
To your point, I do think it's a bit silly for posters to suggest they know better than CNS - HE is the one with the facts, and HE is the one who truly knows how (and if) there is in fact any bad blood between himself and any coaching candidate.

BUT, at the same time, I do respect a fan's right to have concerns about players/prospects/coaches who bring baggage with them. It concerns me at times - and I know it concerns others much more than it does me. And if done respectfully, I see nothing wrong with that.

  • Thanks Lucky--some of the stuff on here is slanderous and defaming to some of these potential coaching hires--enough of the dirt which is nothing that CNS is ignorant about if even true. These types of posts and comments should be deleted asap.
