Ole Mi$$ recruiting is mind-numbing!! >

  • Rebels continue to make waves

    JC Shurburtt

One of the top storylines in college football recruiting for the 2013 cycle just got even more interesting.

Defensive end Chris Jones, the nation's No. 2 overall prospect, is making an official visit to Ole Miss this weekend. He is committed to Mississippi State currently.

Rebels247 reported last night that five-star defensive end Chris Jones, the nation’s No. 2 overall prospect, was on an official visit to Ole Miss. Jones, from Houston (Miss.), is currently committed to Mississippi State.

The Rebels have been working to get the 6-foot-6, 270-pounder on campus for an official for weeks and have him in right now.

It could not have been a better weekend for him to visit if spending time with other top national prospects is of interest to the talented pass rusher.

Ole Miss has the nation’s No. 1 overall prospect, defensive end Robert Nkemdiche (Loganville, Ga./Grayson), the nation’s top offensive line prospect, tackle Laremy Tunsil (Lake City, Fla./Columbia), five-star safety Tony Conner (Batesville, Miss./South Panola) and five-star receiver and Ole Miss commit Laquon Treadwell (Crete, Ill.) on campus for officials.

Nkemdiche and Conner are considered leans to the Rebels while Tunsil is said to have Georgia and Alabama at the top of his list with an edge to the Bulldogs.

Should the Rebels flip Jones from their in-state rivals and sign Nkemdiche as expected, it would give Ole Miss the nation’s top two prospects out of the high school ranks, along with the nation’s top junior college prospect, defensive tackle Lavon Hooks (Northeast Mississippi Junior College), who signed with Ole Miss in December.

After picking up a commitment Friday night from three-star wide receiver Quincy Adeboyejo (Cedar Hill, Texas), Ole Miss moved up to No. 14 overall in the 247Sports team rankings, jumping Oklahoma. If the Rebels land commitments from any of the highly-rated prospects on campus this weekend, it will likely boost them into the top 10.

All the potential for this class isn't in this weekend, either.

While Ole Miss is battling Vanderbilt for former Auburn commit and four-star running back Jordan Wilkins (Cordova, Tenn./St. Benedict), the word is that the Rebels are in good shape. He made his official visit to Oxford last weekend and plans to announce his decision on signing day.

Ole Miss head coach Hugh Freeze and staff, which includes excellent recruiters like Chris Kiffin and Wesley McGriff, continue to make headlines on the recruiting trail. On Feb. 6, national signing day, there's a good chance that the headlines will read "consensus top five class" and perhaps even higher.

  • I hate this BS.

  • So they have 5 5 star players on campus this week not to mention the other 5 star they have committed? Yeah, nothing weird about that. There's something other than football pulling them there.

  • Another reason the NCAA as it exists is completely useless. They can sign every 5 star in America by delivering duffle bags of cash to their front doors and it would take 3 years for the NCAA to position themselves to take action. They are going all out for this class and the next one because they know they can get away with it. At least for a couple of years.

"The Blind Side" isn't real and sure ain't all candy and roses...that syrupy crap ain't what Ole Miss is really abt...

  • I will give them RK because of his little brother and Connor because of his location to Oxford, but the rest is total BS. No way they should be getting all these 5 star players, not Ole Miss. I live in MS and these people over here are out of control. They are rambling on about how they are going to be at the top of College football because of their great recruiting. I'm sorry, but you just can't out recruit traditional power house schools when you have been a mid level team like Ole Miss without some sort of foul play going on. If it walks like a duck, it must be a duck. It's not that hard to figure out, something is going on besides "great recruiting"

If 'butthurt AU fans' see what appears to be going on at Ole Miss (as we do), and they make posts like these in this thread, u can refer to it as 'butthurt' if you want but its reasonable to make such observations. THAT, however, is in NO WAY like butthurt AU fans posting such stuff about Bama's recruiting. Ole Miss and Bama being heavily involved with numerous Elite recruits are of a night and day difference, and you KNOW IT!

    Perspective, pal... A little perspective.

  • Head Coach will be gone in two years and Ole Pi$$ will be back to normal and still with no SEC Championship. Too bad tho$e players are getting sucked in only to watch the staff leave.

The price of victory is high, but so are the rewards.

Would their recent success on the recruiting trail have anything do wth their coach? Before Saban got here we didn't even have a player drafted, now we pick and choose who we want basically, why can't you tip the hat at what he has done so far instead cry amour them getting 5*'s. ridic.

here is how i see the Ole Miss situation.

    - they hired a new HC
    - made a splash leaping out of the SEC cellar
    - and to build on the hype, spanked a mediocre Pitt squad in their Bowl game

    now for the 5 stars...
    - does Nkemdiche need explaing ?
    - Conners is from a long time Reb pipeline
    - instate DE Chris Jones ? OM over MSU doesnt seem unrealistic.
    - Tunsil ? thinking instant playing time or just taking a fun visit ?
    - Treadwell ? looked as if he wanted out of Big10 country & chose OM(SEC) over Okie St

imo i thought they had / have a chance to bag Lawson (from Auburn).

    recap

    1. brother
    2. instate pipeline
    3. why not OM over MSU ?
    4. Michael Oher picked OM over everyone coming out of Tennessee
    5. an Illini kid passing on early fav's Okla & Ok St for the SEC.
