One thing that does get me...

  • If you are a high school kid... a phenom at your position... 4 or 5 star and you see Alabama win 2 national championships in 3 years. Then you see 4 Alabama players go in the first round in back to back years. Then you see the overall numbers of players Saban has put in the NFL, unless you are only going to college to party or have no real ambition why ON EARTH... would you not absolutely JUMP at the chance to play for Saban if offered?

I can see some arguments with playing time, but if you want to make it to the NFL, you have to be the best and you will have no BETTER exposure or opportunities than you would at Alabama where coaches will get the best out of you and build your character and your life even beyond sports.

Just don't understand why our class is not allready full with the top prospects in the nation. Just crazy to me. But I do see the work ethic of the younger generation these days or let me say the LACK of work ethic. I guess there are many who are just lazy and they are too scared to play for Saban because they will not be able to party and smoke weed and "SOMEHOW" by magic get a chance to play in the NFL.

Sorry for ranting. It does just really get to me though. We have great classes every year and we will this year, but sure gets to me how long it takes some of these guys to make a decision.

I mean if you are a HS student and Auburn and Harvard offer you scholarships, how Hard is it to make that decision? A Harvard degree right off the bat gets your pay grade up to about 6 figures where the lesser school might get you a manager's position at Burger King.

I understand what you are saying, but I don't think there are that many die hard life long fans at 18 years old. I think at that age they swing more for who is popular the last few years.

To me that is the only reason that is acceptable, ha.

    Uh.....no.

Most don't want to go too far from home which is the main reason.

However, at 18 years old, which wasn't that long ago, I would have walked on to Alabama before taking a scholarship anywhere else and my dad would have supported it.

  • It take a certain type of kid to play for Saban, period. A lot of recruits claim they have an offer and they do not have an offer. There is no way to verify it. We are much more selective than many people think we are. Saban recruits a lot more than the player - he recruits character!

  • Different strokes, different folks. I agree with you on the super elite, but I also get it for those who aren't necessarily intent on all that Bama offers if you're from a different region. You can go to another school and go in the first round. 28 other people can attest to the past 2 drafts, each. If you're like me (us), you're going to Bama whether it's Dubose, Shula, or Coach Nick Saban. I really see both sides. The thing is, as a Bama fan, alum, donor, and die-hard through good times and bad...I really just want the guys that A) our staff wants and B) that want to be here. If not BOTH of those, then it's best to go another route anyway. I believe an integral part of getting the most out of your players is having the ones that want to be at your school at the root level. Without that, it'll never quite mean enough to them.

  • Rising Tide are you slow or what? The answer is called playing time. It is hard to get that at Alabama and we are not the only school getting players in the NFL. Georgia just had 7 to get drafted and we had 8. Georgia is on TV just like AL all the time. They do not win national championships like we do but they put players in the league. This is just one example with one school. Take off your Ala. glasses and be for real. Lots of 4 or 5 stars do not make it at my alma mata (Bama) due to the competition. Other schools have something to offer and each recruit usually do what they feel is best for themself.

  • It might be possible that Saban doesn't recruit all of the 5's and 4's. I can think of a few that we didn't get, and I am glad of it.

It never ceases to amaze me how anytime we have a thread on here about how and why kids choose their school, nobody mentions academics.

Did Georgia have 4 in the first round back to back years? No. Did espn talk all the time about how well Georgia gets kids ready for the nfl? No.I agree with the playing time but don't act like it's the same getting 7 players drafted to our 8 when 5 of ours were in the first 33 picks.

No you would not. You would not be able to sleep at nite. That would be about the equivalent of Terry Bowden being Bama's coach. That would drive me to drink.
