Opinions on the best and most disapointing of our play

  • Saturday against LSU.

    Best to me was our O-Line play, I thought it was the best of the year, outstanding.

    Most disappointing to me was our tackling, we plain missed tackles and allowed way to much yardage after contact. I am not used to seeing that from our team. That normally is one of the best things we do. I will concede that when it counted late we made some good stops. Pettyway came up very big in LSUs last drive.

  • I thought Milliner tackled poorly for him. Lots of arm tackling. He did make some solid plays but a few, he really looked bad.

    I was most disappointed with the playcalling. To come out of the locker room and call 3 passing plays, was puzzling. I just think overall Nuss got away from running the ball in the second half, when LSU couldn't stop us.

    I was really pleased with, of course, TJ Yeldon. But I was impressed with Marvin Shinn being called on and making some plays and blocks.

    Also, as much as we complain about our punting, Mandell kicked out of his mind Saturday and deserves a ton of credit!!

  • Impressed with the Oline and agree with you completely there.

    I was disappointed with third down coverage in base D. We haven't played a lot of base on third down this year and have been able to go to nickel and get off the field. That's the best or second best (behind UA) power running game in CFB so we had to stay in base more often than not on third down. Mettenberger played great, but we struggled in coverage from that formation pretty badly.

  • I was most impressed with our kick-off and punt coverage, actually. With the weird vibe the game had for a while and our less-than-stellar play, I kept waiting for LSU to really gash on on ST. Didn't happen. Props to those guys.

    Most disappointing? Pass coverage over the middle. I actually thought we played pretty well on the edges but that Mett just ball'd out. But I've felt we cover the middle poorly for a while (I'll never forget the SCar game in 2010 when you KNEW the next pass was going over the middle and every time, completion).

    I agree with you about Mandell, he had a very big night for us. It is easy to overlook those guys when they do good and we are quick to bash them when they do bad.

  • Best: OL and ST play (other than the fumble).
    Worst: Tackling, which is pretty much the same as OP's YAC.

  • Best O-Line... Huge holes for the backs and plenty of time for AJ

    Worst - Worst tackling by a Bama defense in the Saban Era... Which still means that they tackled fairly well. Just not anywhere near the standard that we have been accustomed to.

    AJ was a close second in the worst category. This was his worst game since the LSU game last year. He missed several wide open receivers. He was at fault on the fumble. He came through in the end and I think he is a great QB but he almost cost us the game.
