    As of just past midnight, the child appears to be ok but is still hostage. Neighbors say he has food for several weeks down there.

    My three-year-old nephew is autistic and developmentally delayed. We are very close, so this tears at my heart even moreso than it normally would. If someone like this man did something like this to him, I'd fight a pack of wild dogs to tear him limb from limb.

    My son is 3 and also autistic. I feel the exact same way as you do. I pray for the boys safety and hope they kill the SOB slowly. This story absolutely saddens me to no end.

  • My 21 year old brother is autistic. If someone did something like that to him, I pray to God it never happens and can't even imagine it happening, I'd ask the police to place me in jail to protect me and him from me doing something stupid and getting us all killed.

  • The Dale County Superintendent is Donny Bynum. Dennis Coe is former Henry County Super who now works for state dept. of education. I worked with Mr. Poland, the bus driver who was killed defending his kids on the bus. He was a good man and I am not surprised he died defending his kids. Please pray for the little boy that he will be returned safely to his parents. Also, please pray for the Poland family. Ms. Poland is a sub teacher at Newton Elementary school and I have worked with her also. These are great Christian people! Donny Bynum and the school system admin. in Dale County are top notch people who are also strong Christians as is Wally Olson, the sheriff.
    I know that with these people the first thing they are worried about is the little boy's safety and his release.
    Also, please pray that Jimmy Lee Dykes, the man who is holding the little boy and killed Mr. Poland, has a change of heart and surrenders the child. Then whatever happens to him will be up for the courts to decide.

    has a motive come out, or is this speculation? Makes you wonder, demanding kids and then going to a bunker. I grew up outside of Dothan, I never would have thought in a million years something like this would happen.

    So... How do you get him and the kid out of the bunker hole? Of course the safety of the kid is a must.. Only thing I can think of doing is putting them to sleep somehow ( not sure what's available). Maybe some odorless gas ( non harmful of course ) .. Any other ideas?

    It's obvious this damn crazy nut had plans of living in this thing with 2 children for a crazy long time.

    Time for a new law in which any human being who's seen digging holes in his yard at 2:30 in the morning every night, can be immediately exterminated, by whatever means necessary.

    Time for a new law in which any human being who's seen digging holes in his yard at 2:30 in the morning every night, can be immediately exterminated, by whatever means necessary.

  • scottchap, as of this time the status is the same. People who know say the guy was a doomsday prep nut who hates all government. He gave the bus driver a note demanding two kids age 6 -8. When Mr. Poland refused and started to pull the bus away Dykes shot him four times.

  • So this mentally deranged individual still has this innocent kid down in this bunker? Seems like there is something that the Feds could do here, but again I did watch them tear apart a good house, hear a person breathing, tear gas, x-ray vision, and watch them think a suspect was tweeting when they tried to capture the barn shooter!

    Why isn't this getting more media attention, this is a hostage situation, with a special needs CHILD at that! This guy has no reasoning ability, so law enforcement are going to have to make a move. Hope this child get out okay, and Prayers to all involved!

    I think the police are trying to limit the amount of information that the public is receiving due to the fact he has a television down there and is watching the news. If they released information that stated his agenda etc in his crazed mind it may be motivation to stay down there and keep the kid longer.

    My folks are about 8 miles from there. Not sure if its common knowledge but here's the latest I have heard. There is a PVC ventilation pipe. Police have had communication with the man through this pipe. The man also let them pass down the child's medication through the pipe. So I hope that somewhere in his insane mind he at least is considering the child's health. The child has spoken to his parents and I believe he is watching tv. From what I hear the child is in decent spirits. The parents have been kept off site for understandable reasons. There has been continuous people spending time with the family from local teachers to county superintendent Dennis Coe and I believe the state superintendent today. As I said I'm sure this is all common knowledge but what I'm hearing from my folks who live very close

    Hostage situation in Midland City.

    National News..

    The past 24 hours, communication deteriorated between the Dykes man who was holding 5 year old Ethan hostage in his bunker in Midland City, AL. They then saw that Dykes had a gun in his hand. The FBI went iinto the bunker to rescue the child because they felt he was in imminent danger. Dkyes is dead and Ethan is unharmed..was taken by ambulance to be checked out by medical professionals as a precaution and to be reunited with his parents. I saw the Press Conference that was finally held at around 4:30 pm cst...there were no questions allowed at the time, said they would release answers, etc later as to details. This is wonderful news about Ethan. Praise God!!
