Overrated/Underrated Bama Draft Hopefuls

Actually, I do understand the difference and I have much more experience playing in the secondary than you do. Have you bothered to watch the NFL recently? If so, you'd understand that coverage skills are more important than ever for safeties. This isn't a run first game anymore and it hasn't been for a while. Keep up with the changes in the sport.

First of all Safeties cover TE's in the box...The TD in the Iron Bowl was not a situation where Mark Barron was beaten..He was not in coverage and he was trying to cover the deep middle. He had perfect postion on that play. I have no clue what you saw that leads you to say he was out of position. Everyone I was watching the game with thought the ball was going to be picked off. We were actuallly halfway celebrating before the ball slipped by him.

Your blind worship and your ignorance of the game leads you to see things that way. For a safety to have first round value, his coverage skills must be well above average for safeties. Barron's are not. He's a great tackler and a hard hitter and that's all some people are capable of seeing when they look at safeties but in a passing league, a safety who doesn't have good coverage skills is a liability. He will be the one every team tries to isolate and get out of position because they know he can't handle it. Watch.

My subscription to BOL is worth way more than $100 a year now that we have someone who is better at analyzing the value of college players than the actual NFL scouts.

Thank you for your amazing contribution to this thread. It is an overrated/underrated discussion thread. I guess since none of us are scouts, we should all just say every player is perfectly rated and not have this discussion at all. Is that what you're saying?

No, what you were saying is that you don't think we should be discussing the opinions of the scouts on this message board since we are not scouts.

nah man, you were doing ok until you started in on Barron. Eveyone knows Dre K is an unfinished product with a tremendous ceiling. He might be a litlle overrated today based off his potential..Barron on the other hand is the real deal today, tomorrow and all day every day next week..

Nope. If I'm going to name a soon-to-be first round pick from this team as overrated, I have to pick Barron. Since the point of this thread was to do just that, then that's what I did. I guess you're too insecure to have a discussion about it since you couldn't be bothered to give us your opinion - not that your opinion matters. Besides BamaLivesFootba, you're easily the dumbest poster we have.

My opinion is agree somewhat on Dre, Totally disagree on Barron..Both will be first round picks regardless. Alabama will have an hour long infomercial brought to you by ESPN and the NFL tonight.

I never said they wouldn't be first round picks but two years from now, even with his high bust potential, we will probably still be talking about DK and will have forgotten Barron. Only time will tell, but after a couple of seasons, just remember I told you so.

My issue with your opinion is you refer to Barron as "pretty badly overrated" and use the comment that he isn't consistent as proof. I don't know how you could possibly say that. He was as consistently good as any player I've seen over a 4 year period. He certainly isn't "all or nothing" as you suggested.

I can remember two deep balls that he got beat for...both in Iron Bowls. Todd's pump fake on a hitch and go in 09 caught him and AU scored their final TD because of it, and the previously mentioned TD in 2010's Iron Bowl. You could argue he had trouble with pump fakes and bit too hard up until last season but I don't remember him being beat deep once in 2011. I remember him consistently making plays in the run and pass game though. It's easy to remember when a DB messes up because it's usually a big play but there were a million other plays you don't remember because Barron was doing his job. Put it this way...I never worried about him like I did Dre at some points. I always had confidence in Barron, he's rock solid. That's as consistent as you can get.

It's your opinion and you're entitled to it. I just think you're way off like most on this board. I think Barron is the safest 1st round pick outside of Trent.

It wont take that long for us to know youre wrong about Barron. He'll be a star by the end of his first mini camp.

Now who is claiming to know more than the experts? Even they aren't putting that much faith in him. So you think he's underrated? Why didn't you just state that instead of looking like an ass for the last 4 hours?

Only you would say an Alabama player would be a star without having to play in an NFL game.

    EDIT: you're

the experts are saying exactly what I said. He's the safest pick in the draft and he gives whatever team's secondary he ends with instant credibility. Those are damn near exact quotes from "experts"

No, you're much higher on him than the NFL.com bio suggests they are on him. So you think they don't have him rated highly enough?

I dont have time to argue things youre obviously wrong about. THere are to many tweets and reports going around saying exactly what im saying from experts for me to take you serious. If you havent seen them I suggest you look around.

  • Brad Smelley is definitely UNDERRATED! I think Josh Chapman too!

Look, if you're only interested in parroting what everyone else says, why did you even open a thread with overrated/underrated in the title?

I could see Chapman having a solid career if he gets the right situation. He's certainly on my underrated list.

I'm still not sold on Smelley in the NFL. I think he can spend 2-3 years on a roster but really do agree with everyone on his size holding him back too much. He's definitely worth a last round pick and would easily be a steal as a FA, so I think he's rated fairly.
