After watching the game, hearing coach last night, and reading the board, it's fairly obvious there are some that have real misconceptions regarding our defensive scheme.
1. There's no DC that is going to blitz all the time with that QB and 4 or 5 wide. 2. Johnny M is a faster Tim Tebow that is a much better passer than Timmy ever thought about being. 3. Because they went 4 & 5 wide, they basically created one on one matchups with the exception of our deep safety. You can't run blitz packages often especially when the QB has the ability to not only find the open receiver, but the ability to outrun most everyone on your defense. Therefore... 4. If anyone has watched Bama's gameplan before when playing a mobile QB, anyone would know that blitzing the QB is not the plan. You have to maintain the integrity of the pocket and hope to collapse it on the QB. 5. When doing the above, you don't send 7 after the QB. Most of the night we went 4 DL vs 6 Blockers and changed it up wen we started sendin Mosely. Even then it was mostly 6 on 5...offense wins. Even if we had Clowney, he's not as disruptive a force in this game plan.
I could go on...but it's over now. Gotta play next week.
PS: poor tackling will get you beat no matter how good your scheme is.

Agree with everything you said except about Clowney. Kid is the singular most disruptive defensive force I've seen in college football in 25 years. He has to be accounted for on every play and often with 2 lineman. I saw several plays where Hubbard or Square lost containment and didn't have the speed to catch Manziel. Clowney has the burst and explosiveness to make those plays.
Again, I agree with most of your post but the faction of our fan-base that doesn't think Clowney would impact our defense....not sure if you guys don't know football, are homers, or sour because we didn't get Clowney. Kid is a freakin monster and you can count me as Bama fan that wishes we had that man-child on our d-line as he would have impacted the game yesterday.

Many of us aren't upset at the lack of blitzing....it's obvious you don't blitz a guy like that. What's upsetting is how qbs have had all day the past two weeks due to poor pressure by the d front. We really need a dominant pass rusher.
