I would think she is definately top 15 if not top 10 of all time. Without really analyzing it she would be in my top 10

Agreed. She is in my top ten. I dont care what sport it is if you can win win almost 85% of your games you are one of the best. She will be missed in the sports world and prayers sent for her health.

wow...THE icon for women's sports, a great historical figure, departs...

This is like the Queen of England stepping down. She represents so much of the greatness in women's sports...

No doubt--she lends more class to that University than it would have in a thousand years without her.

Although I am no fan of women's basketball, she will be missed in the world of sports.

Best of luck to you, Coach Summitt

@MrCFB: Along with the 8 NCAA champ and 18 Final Fours is this: Every player who completed eligibility at Tennessee under Summitt has graduated.

That is crazy. A true molder of young minds.

  • Pat was the class of Tennessee (maybe the only class biggrin). Wish her well.

Impressive to say the least, prayers to her and her family.

I don't think so at all but no disrespect to Pat Summit. I just can't put a NCAA women's basketball coach as a top 25 overall coach regardless of sport.

It's not a game where there is a market; it's burns cash at every level and always has. Now it has gotten more popular and that's great but I do think that there is a huge difference in winning in a big market sport that fans invest a lot in.

Was she a dominant women’s basketball coach? Sure.

But if you put her up there because of that then you have to consider the old or current Syracuse lacrosse coach? What about softball coaches? Gymnastic coaches? Swimming and Diving coaches? How about golf or tennis? What about crew? Do they all count the same? Should we measure this just based on how dominant one is in his/her sport?

If so, then is the women’s soccer coach from North Carolina the greatest coach in the history of all sports? Better than Bear Bryant and John Wooden? Better than Dean Smith and Phil Jackson? He has been more dominant in his sport than anybody I can think of.

So while she was a great coach, I would not put her up there with even the Tom Coughlin, Bill Belichick, Nick Saban, and Bobby Bowden level coaches of the world. Not seriously anyway. That's just my opinion.

Loll up Bill Belichicks record before Tom Brady was his starting Qarterback. Right around .500 if I remember correctly.

Yea well, he drafted and developed a Hall of Fame QB in the 7th round. The guy won games that season with Matt Cassel. It really doesn't matter. He is a great great coach.

Yep. Much respect for that coach but honestly I just don't consider that the same as winning in a bigger market.
