Paul Finebaum: It's time to accept responsibility...

  • I know everyone is responsible for his/her own actions, ultimately, but Finebaum is an "instigator of violence". Without his "show", which honestly, is nothing more than a platform for idiot, crazed, insane, obsessive people to call in on, the country would not have near the ammunition they have against us right now, and the fans of the two schools in our state would not form their opinions about the other schools' fans based on a "fringe fan" caller whose voice appears on that show. This "platform" works people up all across the state, and now the country, and I seriously believe that it would HONESTLY be better for all of us if it simply didn't exist.

Ask yourself this one question: When you think of a "typical" *U fan (or Alabama fan, if you're a *U lurker), just WHO do you picture in your mind?

I think with the answer, you'll have a moment of "Clarity".

I don't dislike Finebaum, and I'm certainly guilty of listening from time to time. But it IS time that the man accept and shoulder (as well as his backers) at least some legal, monetary, moral, social, and ethical responsibility for the monster(s) he has and is creating, and in so doing, agree that he is harming both fan bases to the extent that it would be best if he just STOPPED altogether. Would "another head" rise in his place? Who knows? But it couldn't be as bad as what he is doing right now. He is preying on the weak minded and the obsessed, the sick and the insane. In the real world, that is as criminal as armed robbery or murder.

    Do the right thing, PF.

  • yep, PF show is a part of what is wrong with the rivalry. One thing about living out of state I like...I don't have to hear all the garbage. IMO the state might be better off if the 2 just did not play.

I really think the rivalry was just fine before PF came "to power" in what, the mid to late 80's? I don't even remember now, but that's when all the "real" unhealthiness began.

I have wondered that as well. It has gotten so bad that it might be better if they went to the East and we only played periodically. IDK.....I am so glad I did not watch that show tonight. Unlike Chiz, I am pretty sure I really will sleep well tonight when I put my head on my pillow.

  • Blaming PF is like a drug addict blaming it on the drug. That's nuts.

  • I think coach Saban has done a good job of trying to put a positive message out there about it...how to act and what to focus on. I would like to see his counter part be more vocal about the same thing as well.

NO, nuts is the "enablers" who keep living off of their addicts, and feeding them...whipping them into a frenzy.

Sorry, but the show is the reason that documentary makes us all look like idiots, and the real reason that "Updyke" happened.

  • We live in a society where someone else is always to blame. Harvey Updyke can't be crazy because he's crazy. He has to be crazy because of Paul Finebaum. It's not the rednecks fault... nope. It's Paul Finebaum's fault.

    Not saying Updyke isn't responsible.

    Can you read?

I'm saying that the person giving the platform to the insane criminal is complicit in the criminal act. Without the platform, these idiots would never be heard. We all may think we are "immune" to forming opinions based on what we hear on that show, but the truth is, our subconscious builds each little bolt, and limb and face of our rival based on every caller we hear on that show. PF does bear some responsibility is the argument...

I know this may offend quite a few people in here, but I seriously question a person's intelligence if you can handle listening to that show, and listen to it on a regular basis.

  • It doesn't really bother me that his show gives the state a bad reputation. I'll put anyone outside this state in their place when it comes to college football knowledge. And afterwards, I'll laugh and point at their ugly girlfriend.

  • The OP is spot on. I can't believe he has gotten so much power as to sway opinions of this state's two major universities and their athletic departments. A bald headed dweeb who's never coached or played college sports. I do believe his show has gotten out of control and not coincidently, the rivalry has gotten out of control. I think it's disgusting and despicable.

The pendulum of fanaticism swung to the extreme last year, but is currently on the way toward civility....momentum for crazies is ever so slowly waining. IMO PF serves a purpose by giving the absurd a voice, thereby exposing to ridicule the fringe element.
