Peter King rates the top 10 NFL WR of all time

  • Wow! "The other end"...Gives meaning to Coaches humble assessment of himself.
I really didn't expect Hudson. However, to compare performance between althletes who competed with relatively heavy equipment, not the high tech lights of today, on fields which weren't nurtured for speed and durability like they are today, coached by coaches who didn't have the understanding of physiology and coaching technique that we now have, playing in systems who weren't hyper offense/passing oriented(some of them are) like now and you begin to understand the ranking!

Major, did u see Don Hutson play? I doubt it. Jerry Rice deserves number 2 and was the greatest "modern era" receiver. Unfortunately, young people want to put young players they saw as "the greatest".

I will argue to my last breath that Jim Brown was the greatest running back ever, and I did not like him or his team while he was playing. However, younger football fans would probably say Barry Sanders, Emmitt Smith, Gale Sayers, or Walter Payton were better because they did not see Brown play.

Well said.. Guys, Hutson was in the 1st NFL HOF class. He was the Ruth, the Chamberlin (not Jordan), the standard of NFL football. I agree that Jimmy Brown was the best running back that I ever saw in my 60 years (but Sayers was pure magic). But what I have read and heard from the old guys, Hutson was physically way above the rest of the league and in today's game (with offseason trainning from Cochran) he would be one of the class receivers in the game today.

    Thanks for that.

Not sure what your second sentence means?

Coach Bryant referred to himself as "the other end" on the 1934 Championship Team. Hutson was the stud...Kicked major butt in the bowl game...

Why is it so far fetched that Don Hutson is the number one WR of all time?

Just because. Jerry Rice is a no doubt best receiver that ever walked the professional ranks. Hands down there should be no disputing this but he did his job he created interest in his article. Try not to be biased with the name Don Hudson but it's laughable to even consider putting anyone ahead of Jerry Rice.

most all of those guys should be there over hines ward. What a joke

Not a big Hines Ward fan due to his penchant for blindsiding defensive players but his career stats are better than you think they are and have definitely exceeded what I thought he would do coming out of UGA: 991 Receptions, 12,027 Yards and 85 Receiving Touchdowns.

Comparing his stats to the other receivers you listed, he has more Receptions, Yards and Touchdowns than Bilitnekof, Pearson, Swann or Stallworth. For perspective, he already has more Receptions than Swann and Stallworth COMBINED and is about 2,200 yards and 30 Touchdowns from exceeding their combined stats for those as well.

He has more Receptions and Touchdowns than Monk and trails him by less than 700 career yards.

The only ones you mentioned who have numbers clearly superior are Isaac Bruce, Tim Brown, Marvin Harrison and Terrell Owens so you have an argument with those. On Receptions, Ward trails Bruce by 33, Owens by 87, Brown 103 and Harrison by 111: it is very possible he could pass them all by the time he hangs it ups. For Yards, Ward trails Harrison by about 2,500, Brown by about 2,900, Bruce by about 3,200 and Owens by about 3,900: it is possible he could pass at least Harrison by the time he retires, maybe even Brown. On Touchdowns, Ward trails Bruce by 6, Brown by 15, Harrison by 43 and Owens by a whopping 68: he should definitely pass Bruce and Brown but Harrison is much less likely.

I would have had at least two out of Owens, Bruce, Harrison and Brown on the list over Hines Ward but his inclusion is not as big as a stretch as many of you seem to think.

No I dont, enlighten us. And I will counter with 95% of the true NFL fans' opinion that will agree that Jerry Rice would be #1 WR in their minds. Its always been debatable who the best QB, RB, OL, TE, K, DL, LB, CB, and S were. But the best WR has never been in question. NFL.com voted him as best player of ALL time, not just WR, "Best Player".
Why do you always act like a smart ass on my posts?

If it appears that I look like a smart ass on your posts it is not my intent. I was just pointing out your opinion does not make it fact. I will agree JR is by far the best receiver in my lifetime, but not seeing DH I cannot compare. RTR
