Some of you guys need to get a life man. The reason the upper deck is empty is because the students that have those tickets crowd down in the lower level. They can only sell tickets for the amount of seating. Some of you guys are butt hurt.

As a fan I feel it looks bad as well as personally knowing several friends that would pay the money for season tickets.

This isn't directed at you, as I have no idea what your friends' situations are...

    BUT...

...the "if I could buy student tickets I would, but I'm stuck on the waiting list," argument sort of irks me. It irks me because 8 years ago, there WAS NO WAITING LIST. I know, because I graduated and I (along with all my classmates that applied) got tickets the very first year. 5 years ago there was a waiting list, but if you were on it then, you should have gotten tickets with the most recent expansion.

Now, obviously there are people who have only graduated or gotten to a position where they can afford tickets in the last 5 years... but I see an awful lot of people claiming that they'd like to have the opportunity to buy them, but can't. And some of those people need to be asked... where was your application and money when we were 4-7? 3-8? 4-9? 6-7?

No. You must be talking about another game. Last night, they were never close to full.

Here you go. This is a picture of the stadium with roughly 13:30 left in the 4th, with us up 31-0. It shows what I've been trying to explain, parts of the student section *are* full, namely between the 25 and the corner (though it's just starting to thin out on the right edge). Certain parts are less than half full. You can easily see which is which in the photo.

    1) Non-block student seating
    2) Block seating (S3 and over)
    3) Upper Deck

I personally think the upper deck is a horrible idea. Remember, the University is now taking large numbers of academically prestigious out of state students. Many, many of those don't care about football. If they represent 5% of tickets and don't show, and another 5% is crammed into the bowl, then 10% of the allotted seats, all in the upper deck will be empty. This is problem that the students can't fix, and will only get worse.

The main thing is that a lot of other alumni want to lump all these kids into one basket. We need to realize that students are not *one* body, but very different groups. It sticks in my mind being chewed out and shoved off my seat by an older former player as a grad student when, at an away game, he got mad that the students stood on their seats, which the older guys couldn't do. He was mad because "you guys won't sit down," but I didn't want to stand any more than he did, I just couldn't get them to sit either. I just don't like how many posters here are doing the same thing, ridiculing all the students when it's only certain groups that are a problem.

  • I was there and the student upper deck seating is a big problem. It looks very bad and it shows up on TV too. How do the other "big" schools manage to not have 2 sections empty every game?

I'll let y'all make your own judgements. I think it's time to make a change

Saban always gets what he wants. Ergo, I'm not going to be overly codependent about the students bolting prematurely.
When I was a student there, we left the stadium at Halftime whenever we had a beat down going & you weren't gonna stop us, as we had serious drinking to do. Nowadays, I won't leave until the end of Rammer Jammer - ever. So, some things do change in time.

  • So college football is about students?
Is college football really about acedemics?

  • Huskypup, that is BS, the mostly empty the second half, at least in the lower end zone and upper deck. Also, the upper deck was never full. If the students don't want to sit in the upperdeck, so be it, but sell the tickets to people who are waiting on tickets and will fill the seats. IMO it is pathetic. I have been trying to figure out why the university sells a lot of student tickets for three quarters only. It has to be something along these lines, because the student section is at least half empty every fourth quarter unless we are in a nail biter.

The lower end zone and upper deck are only maybe half the student section. That's my point. This photo, at 4:39 left in the game, shows the still full other half of the student section. So realize that the earlier pictures are showing half the students section half full. That means the whole section is still 75% full.

The upper deck is bad because the students don't go there. Instead, they just flood the seats in this pic, which no one notices because they're full.

    Three comments here:

    A) It's general admission. If the upper deck is too cold for you, get there earlier.

    B) I understand cold. As a freshman in 2000 I was so excited to go to my first Iron Bowl, that my buddies and I got there more than 3 hours early, so we'd have our pick when they opened the gates 3 hours before kickoff. I sat through 3 hours of pinhead sized hail only to have that turn to freezing rain ~15 minutes before kickoff, so that I could watch as sh*tty a 9-0 ballgame as I have ever seen soaking wet and freezing. Stayed until the clock hit 0:00 and then I got back to my dormroom and into a hot shower as quickly as possible.

    C) It's the student section. Someone nearby has a flask of Jim Beam taped to their leg that you can swipe a couple of sips of to warm up.

How many if you on this thread have a child attending the university and are paying tuition, room and board, books??

I see it this way. Ok people attend but they don't stand or yell constantly they get accused of not supporting the team. They attend but don't stay the whole game since it was a late game that's a blowout they must stay to the very end even with small children or obligations on Sunday morning. Be damned that they don't account for folks opinions on this thread!! Students do sell their tickets because most of them need the money. I just don't understand why people want to demand they stay for every minute, stand, yell and if they don't they should lose their tix. Oh and top of that the ticket police want to make sure whomever you sell the ticket meets their criteria. Over the past 4 years we have spent 80k for school, books, local housing, and supporting the community. Ill be damned if me and my child's commitment to this University is diminished one bit since she may have sold her ticket or decided to leave a blowout game early because she has to be at work on Sunday morning while you sleep in.

Naive if he thinks his daughter left early because she had to work Sunday morning.

    Bless your heart.
