Qb play against Alabama

  • Why is it that qbs play the games of their lives against us? ESPN was just talking about the lsu/state game and asked could Mett play like that again and how uncharacteristic it was how well he threw the ball esp the 2nd half.

Alabama is giving up 156 yards passing a game. I don't see where anyone other than Mettenberger had the game of their life. We have allowed Jordan Jefferson to do that as well. Might just be an LSU thing.

I was talking about previous years too, It just seems like qbs have games of their lives against us. Just seems kinda pattern-esque

Could be in 09 before he got knocked out of the game. Jefferson was 7-10 with over 100yds. & a td against us. & LSU was running the ball pretty well also in that game.

Its because most teams play their best game against Alabama. Thats why Alabama's double digit wins week after week are so impressive.

  • Agreed that we are getting bashed a little with our pass defense. Jesse Palmer is only talking head looking at whole picture. Most of them look at the moment right now rather than the whole picture. There were a few busted coverages not many when we were zone mettenberger threw great balls even if his wide outs were covered. when we blitzed and played man he made good reads and great throws, but majority of time we were in pretty good coverage.

Anyways I am glad that talking heads are not giving us the invincible tag. For example I think we will be dominant saturday against a good offense and the talking heads will forget bout lsu and start talking how great we or again because they dont look at whole picture just what going on at the moment.

I would consider the below have statistical outlier games vs. Alabama, to the point where people were suprised at how they played.

    Xavier Lee, FSU 2007,
    Tebow, UF, 4th quarter, 2008
    Jonathan Crompton, UT 2009
    Garcia, SC 2010
    LSU's QB's, 2010
    Mett, LSU, 2012
    McCoy, Texas, 2009*

*if he wouldn't have gotten injured. amirite Tejas fans.

Good call on Lee, but that was a long time ago, and we didn't have much on D.
Tebow was a great player, wouldn't say that was a QB having the game of his life.
    Crompton, good game, not great.
    Garcia, obvious.
LSU 2011, two games, zero touchdowns, 72 yds/g, 3 total picks, not buying it.
    Mett, yes.

So it has happened 3.5 times since 2007. My point remains.

Yeah, that makes sense, didn't know what you were talking about with 2011.

It is still less than 1 game a year on average, but it is obvious that the only way to beat Bama these days, is to have an all time great QB or have a QB play a flawless game. Even then, it often isn't enough.

    Hey Baby

  • You remember what is was like when Alabama used to be the underdog playing the #1 team in the land? It was a rare opportunity to create a great moment for your program, and created an absolutely electric environment. It's easy to forget that Alabama is now THAT team that every program wants to use for the opportunity to step it up to the next level, every single week.

That was tebows best game as a passer ever. If he could hit 9 routes like that normally he would have never been traded by the Broncos.

I see the sarcasm w/ McCoy if he had been successful it would not have been a "surprise" and neither was Tebow's.

I don't think a few QB's playing well against us in 3yrs time constitutes a trend.

  • Same reasons why all teams play their best against us.

  • While I do think many teams play their best against Alabama, I also think there is one main underlying reason for it. When you play the #1 team in the country you have nothing to lose. There is no reason to be nervous or anxious, you are expected to lose and most of the time you do, but you might as well throw caution to the wind and sling it around the yard.

You really have two options. Play scared or play fearless. The fearless teams are always dangerous. That was SC in 2010 and LSU last week.
