Question for Tide fans: James Carpenter

  • I'm a ginormous Seahawks fan. When I saw us make our 1st round pick last night, to be honest I had to go do a little bit of reading up on James Carpenter. Is he going to help Russell Okung fix our O-Line?

  • He's a very good kid. Came to us as a JUCO transfer and started every game at LT the past two years. Wasn't a superstar, but did a very good job. LT probably isn't his ideal position. He's a quiet kid. Just goes about his work and you don't hear much from him. He's a very good athlete and probably still has a lot of room to grow as a football player with training. Not a mauler but gets the job done. I think taking him with the first round pick was a bit of a stretch (most expected him to go in the second) but he'll do well in Seattle. You won't have to worry about him much.

  • Carpenter seems like he has been one of those guys who was easy to overlook even by us Bama fans. Off the bat had to come in and replace All-American, Outland winner, and top 10 pick in Andre Smith, overlooked in favor of freshman phenom DJ Fluker, and did nothing but come in and provide a solid two year anchor for us on the left side. Blue collar worker, one of those guys you never noticed because he did his job and did it well. With his skill set and versatility I tend to think he'll fit well in Seattle opposite Okung. Definitely has the pass blocking ability to handle the right side but coming out of a run-oriented pro style offense should definitely give him a leg up in putting some pop in the running game. Surprised to see him go so high, but he's been surprising us with his performance and consistency from day one so I expect nothing but good things from him. Just my two cents.

  • I think so.He can play guard or tackle.I dont think people know how banged up he was last season.Probably not healthy until senior bowl.

  • Sounds promising... thanks for the insight, guys.

I think we would have preferred to make a trade, but we definitely need help on the line so I'm pretty pleased we got him. It sounds like he's got a lot of power.
