Question for those who think Grant is a good coach

  • Should he be fired if Bama misses the tourney again next year? Which is a real possibility.

I think he should easily be fired. You accept mediocrity you will become it.

  • If he misses this year and next, yes.

  • No brainer. You can't pay 1.8 mil and get the results we are having on the court. I honestly think we need to make the tourney and advance.

    CapstoneAlum05

  • Absolutely....with as many guys as we have coming back and the two post signees. He should be fired if we're a bubble team next year, if we don't make the tourney he should be fired right after the selection show.

I agree, I would not be satisfied with just a tournament appearance next year. He's making way too much for us to be happy with 2 tournament appearances in 5 years and no NCAA wins. He needs to get there and win a game or two. No reason not to with an all-conference SENIOR pg leading your team in Relly and a core of talented juniors. Next year will decide

  • I agree, anything less than an invite to the dance should bring grant to the curb. I really like him as a person. I'm just afraid he might be a worse version of mark Richt.

Catastrophic meaning 2 or more injuries to starters?

Personally I think due to his teams overall failures the first 4 years allows him no excuses like injuries in year 5. There will always be excuses then. Last year it was the bad apples, this year the team is young and then it would be injuries to a key player in year 5 in your scenerio.

    Tiderfl

  • Yes you can't take the forward steps he took the 2nd and 3rd year and then go backward two years after that with your prized recruiting class.

    scott713h

  • Please step away from the ledge and let the team finish this season before you begin fretting about next year. Life is more enjoyable as is the basketball season too.

Personally, I don't think it can be an absolute get in or your gone scenario, but I get your point.
What is "catastrophic"? I don't know. That's why an AD gets paid to take everything into context, know if a coach has lost a team/program, and/or is going the things off the court (recruiting etc) to move it in the right direction.

I've repeated myself a million times but there are several things that this coach, the players, and the AD need to do this offseason to shake this program up.
All of those people need to look deep within themselves and decide if they are willing to take actions outside their comfort zone to shift the paradigm of this program.
Are these players willing to rededicate themselves to the gym and weight room?
Is the coach willing to alter his recruiting strategy, and hire assistant coaches who can provide meaningful contribution to the recruiting and team, esp. a new offensive philosophy?

Is Mal Moore willing to possibly hurt the feelings of some big money boosters/ ticket holders and shift the seating in Coleman to reinvigorate the home court atmosphere?

The season is done. This team is too challenged offensively to win the SEC tournament and who really cares about the NIT. Tonight was just a confirmation that no corner has been turned in this program yet. Maybe next year, however, I just see the potential for more excuses next year.

I agree with this 100%. it ain't just the coach folks.

  • I know some people blame grants offensive philosophy but is that the reason we lack a good offense or is it the fact that we lack pure shooters and better center play ?

Ive done a total 180 on the whole student seating issue.
And while I still don't think that the students have done everything that they can do to earn those seats and make Moores decision more justifiable.
The prevailing fact is that most of those lower bowl ticket holders don't even use the seats anyway! They buy them purely for tide totals points.
So if that's the case what do they care where the seats are? Stick them up a section.
Heck, for the ones that to care, UA could easily figure out a way to add some club level perks or other amenities to soften the blow.
It all just comes down to: does Mal/UA care enough about hoops to spend some money and possibly hurt some feelings in order to help improve the basketball program?

It is easier to take and make shots when the ball is moving and you have some type of offensive purpose like we did the last 5 minutes of the game. It is hard as heck to make them when you are having to force them up late and you aren't in good shooting position. Our offensive philosophy of running the clock down and not taking shot early is the problem. Think back to how many times we have set plays up for Lacey off of screens he has made the shot. It is because he knows he going to take the shot and is preparing himself to do so. That isn't occurring the majority of the time because there is a lot of standing around and little offense aggression.

The only way we get in now is by winning the SEC tourney unless we somehow make the finals WHILE beating Florida and Mizzou/Kentucky or something and then losing.

Point is, we aren't gonna make it.

If we don't make it next year, he needs to be let go.
