Quick Sunday morning note to the board ...

  • #1. I have been deleting posts this morning. It is unlikely that I will email you about your post being deleted. I need to rack leaves and it would take too long to email the same message over and over. Please do not take it personal.

#2. The reason we deleted your post (same case for most all posts) is that we want a board that intelligently discusses and debates Alabama and college sports and recruiting during this time. No one wants to read a board filled with bitching and whining about last night's game.

#3 and most important ... PLEASE STOP with the post where you are calling out other posters for bitching and whining. I have deleted so many posts from users that start with the "I am so sick and tired of bitching and whining from you fair weathered , etc." I appreciate your attempt to help moderate the board, but it is actually causing a problem. The board is filling up with posters calling out other posters -- in most cases its just a general comment.

There's a lot to discuss. This team has some glaring strengths and obvious weaknesses. There's big games ahead and recruiting crucial needs will be key.

I appreciate your continued help. Think before you post -- especially if you "targeting". If so, we will throw a flag, unless you are targeting Eddie L with a helmet to helmet, right?

  • Question on the recruiting part Lucky:

If there was one area you think we could use a big time player more than others what would it be?

Lebron James will never be as good as Michael Jordan, thus we should get rid of his nickname, "The King".

IMO it is 1000% natural pass rushers. Allen is key to this class. From what I'm hearing Duval could be that guy for the Tide next season.

A coach told me before the season started that the talent wasn't there at linebacker -- not an overly athletic group. I didn't say much about it cause Alabama fans didn't want to hear it. But he was dead on right -- not a very athletic group. Needs upgrading.

Alabama needs a beast NG too. Williams is a good college player and will play in the NFL, but they can upgrade that position in the future. Don't know who, but that needs to be a priority as well.

Say what you think is right. I want you to tell us the truth. If we have weak link like LBs that are not as talented as they want I want to hear it. This is in no way a flame at all I want to truth even if people may not want to hear. It. You guys are the best in the business and have great connections.

Who do you think will be those guys that will be the LBs and DL that the coaches want for upgrading? Whether that be someone on the team stepping up or a recruit coming in?

Thanks Lucky. Remember don't shy away from telling the truth that is what I want even if the fan in me may not agree with you at first I am sure I will agree later in the season.

Agree 100%. This was exposed the last two games. But with all of our great recruiting classes, why? Is the talent not being evaluated correctly? How does Lsu seem to get d lineman year after year that are unreal and true pass rushers?

That is right on the money IMO as well. If we could get pressure with just 4 guys we wouldn't look as bad in the secondary.

And who could've guessed LB would be a weak spot for us after this recent success we have had? lol

I assume this coach was talking about our current LB's that are playing (minus Duvall And Mosely) and not the younger guys coming up like Ragland, Hayes, etc.?

Some have said Lake can be the next nose guard. He's seems to have the size an mobility, but just from what I've saw he obviously needs work technically and get a little more mean streak. And you're right, our success in a Saban 3-4 defense starts at the NG position. He has to be a toad, one that can not only take on two blockers, but stymie them. That man must require two blockers every play for us to be successful. Williams, in my opinion, even with his great strength is a tweener in our system. Or honestly may be more suited at DE.

We're having hard time getting pressure without blitzing and good QB's are taking advantages of the open spaces. And Lucky, is it just me or is our timing off somewhat on when we blitz? We just don't seem to disguise it like normal. Also, Fanning's measurables would make one think he would end up being a good rusher.

We're built to stop the run, but the last two games I don't think we've been great at the point of attack. Sometimes our DL, including Williams are getting drove off the ball three to four yds. And obviously teams are taking advantage of mismatches with our LB's who are not named Mosely. And he didn't look great at times yesterday in containment.

It's hard to get a team up every week, especially late in the year. Especially the younger guys who tend to lose focus sometimes. Older guys know this could be/is their last shot, have been through the grind before, and understand what it takes. A lot of times it takes losing a game like this (or SC in 2010) for the younger guys to wake up. Barrett said it best last night (Chris' article) when he said we forget we're not better, but win because of being more prepared and working harder. (or something to that effect)

Anyway, just curious to what you thought. I know you're busy wit the leaves.......crackwhip

  • FYI, we open conference play against aTm in College Station next year. At least we get Manziel early.

As good as Manziel is (and he is good), Texas A&M's offense is going to really miss those two big Offensive Tackles. As you saw yesterday, Manziel can get to and around the edge anytime he wants to or needs to right now. With mediocre protection, especially on the perimeter, Manziel may look a lot more human in 2013.

They'll also be without two NFL 1st round tackles. RTR.

  • Lucky--it seems to me that our DBs are a step slower this year also getting to the ball. It could be a mental anticipation issue, or just a physical issue once they decide to react to the ball. I knew we would miss Barron's overall game this year, but not the way the past two games have exposed our DBs. I understand that the lack of a pass rush contributes to this problem, so it's not a knock on the DBs coverage alone. Do you improvement next year with more experience and players like Collins and Williams getting playing time?

  • I think Tyler Hayes is the next CJ Mosley. Noy big but Super quick and makes plays. We will see.
