Rank the best SEC RB's you've seen.

  • With TR and MI's recent success, it got me to thinking. I rank them not on their overall accomplishments but on their skill at their peak. Here is the way I rank the ones i've seen play in my lifetime:

    1. Herschel Walker
    2. (tie) Bo Jackson and Trent Richardson
    3. Emmitt Smith
    4. Mark Ingram
    5. Shaun Alexander

My sixth would be Humphrey or McFadden.

  • Bamaslugger I would probably not include Trent right now...Shaun Alexander and Mark Ingram have to be ahead...Shaun was simply amazing...Trent has some work to do...if he gets to the Mark Ingram level (Heisman)...and Shaun Alexander level (rushing yard record) I wouldnt have a problem him behind Emmitt..

  • Is this for talent or career?
If it's career, you can't have Richardson on the list.
If it's talent, there would be a long list of guys like Cecil Collins and Jamal Lewis who didn't, for various reasons, play a lot of games.
Who is the RB at Alabama in the early 80s, #25? Played for Bryant. Tremendous talent. His name slips my mind.

Linnie Patrick, heck of a talent, just stayed in the doghouse too much.

  • I'm only 27...but Run DMC is the best I've ever seen in person...outside of our guys of course, Ingram and Shaun...Trent's on his way too.

Hard to say I saw a GREAT back when they've been trying to run against this defense the last several years too.

I agree that Mark has to be a little ahead in overall proven skill set at this point. This coming from a guy that originally thought Trent would compete w/ Mark out of the gate for PT ('09 was a pleasant surprise).

I was present for virtually every game in '09 and '10, and the vision/power/cutback ability of Ingram, especially during his healthy '09 season, was just fun to watch, along with his pass protection skills. Trent's style is obviously a bit different, but I think we eventually see him pass Mark, maybe even by the end of the year. He has already shown improvement in his vision, although some could argue the vision has been there - he was just choosing to run over people. Now we are seeing TR run through, around, AND away from defenders.

Let's debate this again at the end of the season. haha

    Patrick! He's the one.
Any list of RBs based on pure talent should have him in the top 5.

My list of "pure talent" SEC RBs I've seen:
    1. Walker
    2. Jackson
    3. Cecil Collins
    4. Richardson
    5. Patrick
    6. Jamal Lewis
    7. McFadden
    8. Humphrey
    9. Stephen Davis
    10. Santonio Beard

  • 1. Bo Jackson, AU
    2. Herschel Walker, UGA
    3. Emmit Smith, UF
    4. Reggie Cobb, UT
    5. Tim Worley, UGA

Will rank Trent Richardson after he leaves college football.

    Possible

  • herschel and bo, period

    bamaboys1

  • It's an old debate at this point, but I don't understand how anyone who saw them both play could rank Jackson ahead of Walker.
Walker was just as big and fast and had a markedly better career.
