Reason why 2012 will be nothing like 2010

  • If you look back at 2010, what were the biggest weaknesses on our team?

    1. The offensive line - from about the south Carolina game on we could not run the ball against anyone and we could not protect the qb against teams with good defensive lines. Factor in the barrett jones injury and our offensive line is why our offensive struggled at times that year. Ingram and trent had to make cuts and break tackles before they even got to the line of scrimmage. I don't care how good your qb and skill players are, if you have no blocking then they can't do much. I would take an excellent offense line and average skill players any day over great skill players with a bad offensive line

    2. Defensive line - we had the talent but injuries killed us (upshaw and dareus on bad ankles all years, square torn acl, and Hightower still not 100 percent). We had zero pass rush at times during the year and qbs had all day to throw. Factor this in with a very green secondary and we got killed with big plays all year. Watch the south Carolina, lsu, and auburn game and look at all the huge passing plays we gave up.

Now is 2012, what are our biggest strengths? O-line and defensive line. Enough said. This should be the best offensive line we have ever had and we have some monsters on the defensive line and the most depth since about the 2002 season.

  • Great analysis. Another factor that makes the 2012 team better than the 2010 team is our experience in the secondary. This will be Lester's 3rd year as a starter, Sunseri gained some valuable experience late last season in the secondary, Milliner played virtually ever snap in the nickle or dime packages, so that's essentially 3 starters returning. Also, the JUCO corners we recruited were able to enroll early and go through spring practice, as opposed to 2010 when Menzie didn't enroll until the summer and he had to play catchup all season long because of his achilles injury.

  • #1 Reason - Schedule.. In 2010 we had 6 SEC Teams that had 2 weeks to prepair. Not the case this year. 10-2 worst case 12-0 best case.

2 weeks to prepair? Who did they pair with?

I completely forgot about that. I still can't believe the SEC allowed that to happen. Somebody should have thrown a huge red flag as soon as they noticed that 75% of your conference opponents had a bye week before you. It still amazes me

  • Solid points beast, believe leadership in the secondary (Lester) and more quality depth will also help this year and going forward.

  • As much as people may not want to admit this, the QB position can be a game changer for the offense compared to 2010.
