Rueben Foster has best film I've seen for a defender

  • This guy is unbelievable good, I knew he was suppose to be good but he is a lot better than I realized. His closing speed and explosion thru the ball carrier is out of this world. This kid is the best defender Saban has signed at Bama and will be an absolute force in our scheme. I think he will play a lot as a frosh in Nico's old role and will be a terror on special teams.

  • I would say as good as he is .... he still has a LOT to learn about playing inside.

To me, his best film is of him rushing the passer from his junior year.

Once he gets some seasoning at ILB, he'll be a bad dude out there. But it's a process. Reading plays. Take inside blocks, from one and two guys. Takes a ton of discipline to play inside.

    But man, what a talent.

  • For those very few who have not seen it.

It's as impressive of a tacking clinic you will see on film.

  • I would still go with Landon Collins as the best defender Saban has signed.

  • or we could use the original one. sorry to be a dick about this but the guy stole my footage and didn't even bother linking my film. at least other sports marketers were decent enough to give me a courtesy. i didn't put in three seasons and over 100 hours of work for some dude to pull my stuff as his own

  • He'd also make an excellent lead blocker on the goal line. He's violent.

  • Bingo. Everyone who expects him to play as a true freshman should remember that. You can be the best talent at the position but if you're a liability in any aspect of the scheme you won't see the field. That said, I would love to see him out there next year.

  • would not shock me at all. he's more than capable of running the ball

  • Fosters film is great but doesn't show a ton of range in ability. I'd like to see him use his hands more, drop in coverage a bit and also diagnose plays on misdirection runs etc. he seems like a straight line missile but I'd like to see how he reacts with misdirection as he seems to attack with reckless abandonment and bad intentions - which can lead to great highlights but also can lead to miss assignments and creating a lane in a gap he should be covering.

I just made another post about Da'Shawn Hand and I know it's much different positions but Clowney and Hand have the best film I can remember for a defender. The best I can recall for a Bama signee was likely Dareus.

Though different positions Rod Woodson is the film that I'm reminded of when I watch Foster.

Foster showed true sideline-to-sideline ability at the all-star games against the nation's best, though he does have plenty of room for improvement.

Agree, wasnt trying to knock him at all but I think he's more Trey Blackmon at this stage than Rolando McClain.

*edited to add: I mean as a college signee. Was very impressed with Blackmon as a senior in HS and Fosters film reminds me a lot of him. McClain was a more complete player coming out of HS but Blackmon had the tape that made you say "wow".

I agree with you in part. He & Blackmon both play down hill & very fast. But Blackmon was a seek & destroy guy. You could get him to bite on ball fakes or play action every time. Foster seems to have more patience of letting to play develop before he blows it up. He has to improve in pass coverage, but I've been really impressed on how patient he is.
