(SIAP) Charter Cable no longer carrying CBS

  • As of Nov 29th. Is this some kinda sick joke? I call and they say if they don't reach an agreement that they will no longer carry CBS as of Nov 29th. Something about CBS raising their prices 150%. Anyone heard this?

    What area are you in? I work for charter here in Montgomery and there have been zero talks of us dropping CBS in our area.

  • Its in the Birmingham area (CBS 42). I am getting nervous....but people keep saying it will be worked out by Saturday.

    Can you watch SEC games on CBS online??????

    I saw it during the UA game. I couldn't believe that would happen. I have directv but that sounds crazy.

  • When I tried to drop cable and go all Netflix/Hulu/HD Antenna, I bought the Leaf Plus HD Antenna. From Hoover, I was able to pick up 40-45 HD Channels (including Tuscaloosa channels). Might want to pick one of these up as a backup.

  • A similar situation happened here in Cincinnati with the NBC affiliate and time Warner cable. For about a month, we got NBC coverage out of Indiana rather than local Cincinnati. The only thing it impacted was the local news.

  • It will get worked out man....it may go a week or two past the deadline but it will be fine. This crap is happening more and more and it's all about $$$$$

    I connect my laptop via HDMI output for a pretty good picture.

    me too..been staying with the in laws while our house is built and they have charter...good thing we are moving out this weekend...phew

    If your laptop and TV have an HDMI connection, just connect the cable and set the TV on HDMI input.

    If this happens I am fine with it. I don't give a crap about the local news I just want to watch the Bama game and I am sure that whichever market they switch to will be carrying the Bama game.

  • Do you like HDTV?

    Do you live in a well populated area?

    Then you may not know this, but that feed you get from Cable is compressed...throw some rabbit ears back up and ABC, NBC, CBS and a handful of other HD stations are clearer than that cable on 1080P. If you are in the Birgmingham area, you shouldn't need cable to get the networks.

    And for those who have bad memories of reception, wavy lines, and snow on the TV...digital noise is not like that, and if you signal stays above 60% it is crystal clear. Just know that if Charter dumps CBS, you have a cheap option available.

    Do you get ABC? It's the only station I can't get on my antenna, and I live near downtown in Highland Park.

    They'll ask for you phone number on the account, and then you can let them know how you feel. As a heads up, they're going to turn around and give you the number for CBS so you can call and complain to them. They will also act like if they have to pay the increased cost to CBS, it will be passed on to us.

  • If I was Charter, I wouldn't pay them a cent more. They are giving away their product for free over the air, so why should Charter pay more for the same signal?

    And FWIW, Over the Air antenna is the cleanest, purest signal you can ever feed to your big screen TV. I have it hooked up to my PC so I can record every CBS game using an antenna, and then cut out the commercials so I can put it on a tablet, phone or burn to Blu-Ray.
