It was always 12 for the longest time. I thought it had to do with so many great Bama qbs wearing 12. Also I realized it coulda been for 12 titles, of course.
Then we won in 2009 and all we saw for 2 years was the number 13 on the helmet. Okay, so that confirmed it. And then immediately after the LSU beatdown they actually had replaced the 13 with a makeshift 14 on it.
I don't know if yall noticed it but I think its really cool that we see that helmet number being how many titles the University of Alabama has won.
Sorry if this is a strange post, but it was on my mind... and hey, the season is over.
