SIAP: Quick question about BCS postgame

  • I watched the BCS Championship game for the 7th time tonight. I know it's pathetic, but it is what it is. Anyway, during the postgame presentation, when Erin Andrews is interviewing Courtney Upshaw, he references the "mush rush." Is this the type of pass rush that we used against Tim Tebow as well? The type of rush where when you get as deep as the dual-threat QB you stop penetration and stay parallel with him or roll back in front of him to prevent the QB from breaking free for large "trash" gains.

I meant to ask the first time I heard it, but, well it was an exciting night and I just didn't think about it again. gunhoneybadger

  • Mush Rushing is not really "getting after" the quarterback but more forcing him to stay in the pocket and forcing him to throw. With Jefferson, I think it was the ideal thing to do.

  • It was definitely the right thing to do against Jefferson and Tebow. I'm curious as to what we would do against a dual-threat QB that is also very accurate in the pocket.

dual-threat with very good accuracy? Watch Garcia against us in 10' and think of that happening every saturday...Andrew Luck accuracy with Denard Robinson speed..doesnt happen really!

That combo would be a once in a lifetime or none in a lifetime player, but I don't think you would have to have Denard Robinson speed to be deadly. Steve Young comes to mind and I wonder what RGIII will do. He did have a 72% completion percentage and throws and accurate deep ball.

Anyway, that wasn't the point of my post although it is an interesting discussion. I was just wondering if anyone knew specifically what the "mush rush" was. By the way, it would have been fun to see our defense against Baylor this year. If that happens, Trent wins the Heisman IYAM.
