SIAP-UGA player attempted eye gouge

  • Anybody catch #2 Dawson try to eye gouge Milliner? Go back and check on the replay after UGA scores early in the 4th to go up 28-25. Milliner ends up getting a flag for responding to the thuggery. After watching the CBS halftime crew basically begging the SEC office to suspend Dial for the bowl game I thought this blatant act to injure another player needed to be mentioned.

  • I just posted about this, not one comment from the broadcast crew about it.

  • Well that explains why Milliner was so pissed off.

  • Yeah, I noticed that too in the replay. Of course the retaliation gets the flag.

  • I was watching the game with a friend of mine who started 3 years at safety in the SEC. He laughed at the Aaron Murray hit and thought he summed it up best.

"That kid has played quarterback all his life ... he's got to know that hit was coming if he acts like a defensive player."

Murray was no longer a quarterback. As long as that was not helmet to helmet, its the right play. From the camera angle it looks like a shoulder hit. Its what happens when a 290 pounder hits a 200 pounder... is what it is.

  • A few dirty moves UGA in this game. A player threw a punch earlier. I thought throwing a punch after a play got you tossed

Yep. The Dial hit looked clean to me. He lead with his shoulder and like your friend said Murray has to know he's fair game on a INT return. I just thought Brando and company at halftime were comical as usual calling for a suspension.

Absolutely agree. The ONLY possible penalty on Dial would have been helmet-to-helmet (which I don't think it was). Most of the people crying about this are treating it like a late hit on a quarterback. Unless they make a rule that quarterbacks are off limits at all times (and are not allowed to tackle), then there is absolutely nothing wrong with blocking him into oblivion.

  • Ga. Was playing angry. They were physical and were desperately trying to knock us off the mountain top. I have now watched the game three times. I have seen quite a bit of dirty play by Ga.When you play angry your emotions can get the best of you and it seems the Ga defense was dirty at times. Many have been complaining about cbs and how they were praising Ga and coming down on Dial for the hit, which was clean by the way (no crimson glasses) they want to see us knocked off the mtn top too. Sucks for them we are still on top.

  • No one has mentioned went Rambo tackled TJ on the 1 yard line he tried bending his leg back..TJ gets up and says something to him as well. And everyone knows TJ does talk much if all during games really

  • Keep in mind, guys, that all the dirty play is basically "approved" by the head man, Richt, as evidenced by his reply to being the most penalized team in the SEC:

"I'm okay with that". (according to what the CBS announcers said)

One of the most, if not THE MOST, undisciplined teams in CFB.

  • I don't think the dial hit was dirty but it was most definitly a penalty. Dial's helmet hit Murray squarely in the jaw. I linked it below.

Either way, bama would have still had the ball.

I think the no call on PI later in the game easily made up for it bc that call had an effect on the game.

So the rule is at no time can a defensive players helmet touch an offensive players helmet?

Look he led with his shoulder and hit the kid in the chest, that is very clear in the video, the force of the hit created a whiplash that caused the two helmets to collide.

His helmet touched the other guy's first so that is a penalty. It's especially called when the guy getting hit is a qb. I don't see why anyone feels yhe need to argue this. It really didn't matter in the larger scheme of things and we had worse calls go their way.

Cause your wrong! Dial led with his shoulder and is taller than Murray. Murray was moving toward the Bama player with the ball. He wasn't walking off the field. Free shot. Clean hit. Stop drinking the Brando kook aid.

Clean is not determined by motive. It wasnt intentional, but still a penalty. Same thing happened with AJ earlier. You may disagree with it on principle, but that's the way they've called it all year.

It in no way effected the outcome and isn't a big deal. The pass interference called back was a much bigger call.

He wasn't a QB. Once the INT happens, he becomes a defender. He was chasing the play. Whether it has an illegal hit can be debated all day but he is no longer a QB at that point.

The issue with hitting QBs is that they are vulnerable when passing the ball and aren't ready to defend themselves from hits above the shoulders. Murray has to look around and protect himself when the INT takes place. If someone were covering a punt and he took that hit, no-one would even mention it and some would even call it a great block. You have to look at the as the same thing. He was a defender. Was this an illegal block on a defender?
