One thing Nick Saban didn't have when he arrived in 2007 was a legacy. By taking Alabama back to the national championship, and for other reasons, his is reaching rare status
Christopher Walsh covers Alabama football for BamaOnline, 247Sports, and is the author of 18 books.
this is what i was waiting on
Awesome Chris, thanks!
Great article Chris!
one of your best!
Honestly Chris, your articles keep getting better and better! Much appreciated!
I'd be proud to have him leading our program if we celebrated becoming bowl eligible. The fact that we're in the national championship discussion EVERY YEAR just makes it so much better. And unlike his previous jobs, I think he's here to stay. I wonder how much longer he can keep it up though...he's already 60.
Great article about a great coach - pretty good combination!
My first sig!
Great read; thanks Chris!
Saban's legacy is already secure, but WHEN we win on Jan. 9th, his legacy and legend will be starting to approach CPB, minus about 4 national championships.
Assuming this, I think Saban is DETERMINED to make his legacy at least comparable to CPB's at Alabama and he'll stay long enough to win 2-4 more NC's at least! There's just something going on with the Alabama connection, his family, the tornados, Tuscaloosa, the mayor, the control he has, the way Alabama men respond and have that special "it" factor that other programs just don't have...
GREAT article, CW...loved it...
CW, I could read this stuff all day long. Great job!
Anyone remember the haters when we hired a $4 Mill a year coach and they said coaches werent worth that? Who would ever dispute that when you see the product on/off the field and then interview his players. No coach in the country gets a worse wrap than CNS. Sadly, from other places in the country his legacy would be reminded on 2 things. NFL to Bama and his lack of enjoyment for bad questions (mainly from the state paper that is falling everyday)
"That's what people know us as..ya understand!"
Very nice Chris. That was good writing.
So many kids that have a chance to play football on any level are promised many things that are not realized. With Alabama and Nick Saban it's not a promise it's a full commitment from the top down to make sure you are your very best as a man. How valuable is that to a player? How valuable is that to those who love that player?
Very nice read. No doubt that CNS is developing into a legend. I look forward to reading a book about him one day and all of the great legendary achievements in which he was able to accomplish. One small legendary story was with that Lame Kiffen. Remember when he said he was going to put a wall around Memphis so that CNS couldn't pluck any recruits out of there. And then like the next day CNS gets a 4 star recruit to commit. Hilarious. I look forward to reading a compilation of all of those justifiable reasons for being a legend. RTR

Really proud he is our Coach!
Excellent piece Chris, If I had a son CNS is the one coach that I would love for him to play for, bama fan or not!
"Character" is doing the right thing when nobody is looking.
My math might be wrong but I got Saban at .818 winning % at Bama.
If they gave a Pulitzer for sports journalism, I would put that article up for it. Great
article, truly inspirational, Chris. We deeply appreciate you, Travis and the entire
BOL Staff. Please pass the word: Merry Christmas, Happy New Year and
Happy Jan 9th to you and all your co-workers at BOL from all of us......RTR!
It's so impressive how well spoken our players are when interviewed....CNS has such a positive influence on players in so many ways.
Nice job. I love how you ended it. That quote could live for all time.
Great article CW.
I guess it is safe to say that this game is hugely important to Saban for the reasons you mentioned above. This game can cement his legacy among the great coaches in the game.
