Sadly, Upshaw proves

  • Sr bowl does little to move a prospect.

Maybe so but th main thing tht has obv hurt CU has been his size as a tweener btwn a prototype for a DE or a OLB. But no doubt he will be a player. i jus hate it for him. he deserved better

I think he's top 10 talent. Just commenting that after sr bowl, he was a sure fire first rounder.

Tonight folks talked them out of making the right pick. Now he is a steal.

  • I honestly think it had more to do with the fact that he gained a ton of weight at his pro day. It just doesn't make alot of sense. He said that he hoped to be about 15 pounds less. You don't gain 15 pounds and not know about it.

I'm just speculating, of course... but I still think he'll be stud and is going to be a steal at this point. Now that he's in round 2, I hope he goes to a good team.

  • Go slowly here boys. This is not a fantasy league. If the Ravens do pick him up early in second round you will see how draft day works. Baltimore watched teams move around with trades and determined they could get CU in the 2nd and pick up an extra 4th round pick. I know it stings us a little and cost Courtney some guaranteed money, but that is the reality of the business of the NFL.

    ^^This^^

When he showed up so heavy it made teams think twice. Whoever was working out with him should be let go. That, or someone should really work with these guys on their talking points. Can't say you are disappointed about your weight when you know you will have to hit the scale.

how would you ever know though?

  • Everyone needs to realize that Courtney is not a lock to play nfl linebacker. He is being viewed to be a defensive end in a 4-3 defense in the NFL. Honestly, I totally agree with that. He's not quick or fast enough to play zone or fast enough to stay with tight ends or running backs out of the backfield. His skill set is his point of attack strength and his hand quickness. He is the best in this draft at fighting off blocks and using his quickness with his hands on pass rush. But don't kid yourselves guys, he's not an NFL OLB. He's a 4-3 DE.

  • Not to beat a dead horse here, but I said he wouldn't be a top 10 pick three months ago and everyone jumped on my back. Now I did fully expect him to go in the 1st round at least. I'm very surprised he didn't.

    Andrew

  • If he was 260 he would have been drafted as a lb in the 20 range IMO.

    Still gonna be a steal

    Wrong.

What hurt him the most was showing up to Pro Day overweight and out of shape.

Agreed. The Ravens made a decision based on the teams around them that they could move down and still get CU. This is unfortunate for CU obviously, but that is the art of the draft.

  • ^^^This is exactly what happened. Now I kinda hope the Colts end up taking him just ahead of Baltimore.

  • This is just a crazy statement.

Every year guys come to the Senior Bowl and raise or lower their stock.

Like Bruce Irvin. The guy that replaced Upshaw in the draft based on what they saw. They sighted the Senior Bowl and their system and Upshaw's size might relegate him to DE. He is unproven at DE and may have adjustment problems due to technique, scheme and his measurables. He would have been better served losing some weight. That said, there is no shame in being a second round pick and I hope the Ravens take him..
