Saw an ESPN analysis of ten win seasons in the SEC

  • They showed that only four teams have had four straight years of ten+ wins since expansion to 12 teams. UGA and UT had streaks of four years and UF had a streak of 6 straight years under Spurrier (surprisingly never more than 2 straight years of 10+ wins under Meyer).

We're the fourth team at four straight years currently. We seem destined to make it five in '012 and should be in good shape going beyond that, so we may tie or break UF's record. Just goes to show what a great roll we are on and how competitive the league is. Saban could go twenty years in just about any other conference.

  • Thanks to a comeback win against on the road against Arkansas in 2010, though of course that would have been negated had we not gave up a 24 pt lead at home that same year to AU. If we can keep the schedule relatively fair then I think we will make a run at the record.

  • If we win 12 minimum, we'll have

    2008 - 12
    2009 - 14
    2010 - 10
    2011 - 12
    2012 - 14(screw minimums)

    62 wins is 5 seasons.

    taint bad.

  • Sorry, gotta be that guy. It was harder to win 10+ in the 90's when Florida did it. You only played 11 game regular seasons back then as opposed to the 12 we play now. Florida could only play 13 games in a season. 8 of those against the SEC, 1 against a dominant FSU program every year, usually 1 against us in the SECC and then a very tough bowl opponent...and they still won 10+ six years in a row.

What we've done the past 4 seasons is the most impressive run I've ever seen us make and I'm in awe of it. The SEC is stronger than it has ever been so that's also something to consider. We have gone 28-4 in the regular season SEC the past 4 seasons and 48-6 overall...amazing. Still, the fact remains that without the 4th OOC game, we don't win 10 games in 2010 and our streak currently stands at 1 although we would have won 10+ in 08, 09 and 2011. I'll take our 2 national titles the last 3 years over any streak out there though...just making a point.

That's fair but also only one of our last 4 have been 10 wins exactly. The other 3 are 12+. So that's 3 out of 4 at 12+. Plus as you said the SEC is stronger now overall than back then. The current SEC West is the strongest division ever and its not close.

So IMO our run is as impressive as anything UF did or more, assuming we get 10+ this year and next, which is highly likely.

Without that 4th OOC game, we wouldn't have lost to Auburn in '10. I realize we blew a 24 point lead, but CNS would have two whole weeks to prepare for the "tiggers."

We still would have won 10 games in '10.....

I agree with you. I think we have to stop looking at the 10 wins as the bar. It was a good barometer when teams only played 10-11 games a year. Now, though, you get at least 13 chances to win 10. It's not as hard, competition level notwithstanding. I think we need to start looking at the number or L's in the record now and judge by that. If there are one or zero losses, then it's been a fantastic season. Any more than one loss, and it's been good to very good buy not great. Bama won 10 games in 2010, but it was definitely not a great season, IMO.

I agree for Alabama...but in general 10 wins is a high level of achievement. That means (if you're in a Power conference), a probably Top 10-12 finish. Elite for that year.......
