Would eliminating conference divisions help the BCS & create better conf title games? I haven't heard this discussed much. But if there were no East & West divisions in the SEC, just take the top 2 teams from the entire conference, we would be playing LSU this Saturday for the SEC title & a trip to the BCS championship game. The Pac 12 would most certainly like this senario as it would have an Oregon vs. Stanford rematch instead of Oregon being favored by 30 points over UCLA with a 6-6 record. I know the national title is the ultimate goal, but I wish we we had a chance to win the SEC Championship as well.
No. 100% no. Simple reason is you could have ties and teams didn't play each other. Who do you take? Both georgia and us had 7-1 conference records this year. Who wins the tie breaker? Us bc we had better overall record? What if Georgia had beaten Boise st? Bcs standings? I'm not in favor of settling even less stuff on the field than we do now.
Use the same tie breakers that we have now. In this case the BCS standings would break the tie between us and Georgia. There is no question this year who would be more deserving.
Yes but this is not a normal year. For example...if there's no divisions we could beat georgia and arky early in the year, those are the only games they lose. We win out and lose to AU in the iron bowl and fall behind both of them in the bcs. We would have beaten both of them for their only loss but they'd both go to the title game over us. If you eliminate divisions then you must eliminate the head to head tie breaker bc everyone didn't play everyone else. With everyone rotating you could have a senario where there are several tied teams and only a few played each other. Big mess for no reason IMO.
