Being a Catholic, it drives me crazy when ND fans act like they are "God's team" because they are a Catholic school. There are several Catholic universities around the country but ND gets all the attention for some reason. There are plenty of college football fans, players, and coaches (including Nick Saban) who are Catholic and don't feel any loyalty to ND.

For the record, I have never and will never be a Notre Dame fan regardless of my religious beliefs. I have 2 degrees from Alabama so I say Roll Tide forever.

With regards to them saying we all marry our cousins or whatever, I wish they would come up with a new insult. No southerner is married to his/her cousin so Yankees need to quit using an overplayed, untrue stereotype. I think people up north are just jealous that we have better football, better weather, and much better looking women in the south.

Agreed MTA. And well said. I think the loyalty there comes out of some old sense of loyalty. ND football gave some pride to Catholic people when there was prejudice against Catholics (many years ago) the same way Alabama did for southern people throughout the south. The "you can look down on us but we can still whip your ass on the field." However, things change. ND wants and thinks they are the standard bearer for all Catholics and they simply are not (at least not anymore). Same way Alabama is not exactly the standard bearer for all Southern people. I think both sides will probably invoke that sentiment in this game, though.

Didn't they do "Catholics vs Convicts" when they played Miami? Seems unclassy to consistently belittle opponents who you face once every other decade.

"unclassy" ??? i believe the word you were looking for is "classless". as far as class schools. Penn St fans showed all the class in the world while their DC was banging every young boy he could lay his hands on. while their administration covered it up for the good of a coaching record. so maybe pediphiles arent limited to one faith.

I just want to kick the fish eaters ass really really bad. That will shut them up.
