So who among you will admit that CNS was not...

  • There was a large contingent of fans who not only thought we could not get Saban, but that he wasn't that good anyway. These fans saw two 10+ win seasons, two 8 win seasons, and one 9 win season at LSU. I hate to say it, but TR made this exact point in a post.

Other posters took it further than TR and said that all of the Saban backers were silly and delusional.

  • Saban all the Way! Saw what he accomplished at lswho and I knew he would be good for us.The only reason I joined this or should I say the old site was because I was loving what was going down and couldn't get enough.Look at me now!

  • FWIW the day he was introduced I was watching with my Mom and Dad. We just looked at each other and said. "we will win a national title or five with this guy". I really thought one maybe two or three, and so far so good. G

Well instead of hiring Shula, I wanted us to let Kines Interim for a year then Hire Miles from OSU

Miles was already at LSU when Shula was fired...no flame intended..

  • Never wanted RR. I thought he still had too much left to prove and was unsure of his character. In my mind, winning at WVU did not equal potential to dominate the SEC. Also felt like we could ill-afford to go after anyone unproven and suffer through another 5ish years of pseudo-success. I got flamed for saying as much, but I knew I was of the minority opinion... The day MM flew to Miami was the day he solidified my opinion of him as an AD. I think this was also the time that a lot of Bama fans, including me, realized we had to look for coaches "outside of the family" (I'm as big a Mike Shula supporter as anyone, but always felt he was there to get us through the dark ages). I have happily shifted my paradigm since! RTR!

  • fingergunHave to admit I couldnt stand Saban because he was from LSU and I didnt want him. I hated his guts when he was at LSU. I would get so mad just looking at him while he was there. I didnt want him at all I wanted Jon Gruden. I also was a little worried that we would get into trouble/probation with Saban just based on things that I had heard of while he was at LSU. I soon appoligized to Saban and have asked forgiveness and now suppport him 100% and hope he stays as long as he wants. (Of course having a wife that is an LSU fan didnt help me either)

  • I told my dad at Thanksgiving that year, because they Dolphins played, that I wish they'd fire him and that we'd hire him. I had liked him since Michigan State. I about hit the roof when I found out that was happening the following January.

  • I will be honest... when he was at LSU, I hated him, and I was glad to see him go to Miami. The reason was he had LSU at levels I had never witnessed in my lifetime... bottomline, he was a great coach, who had done a great job. I felt the coaching search at that time was THE MOST IMPORTANT of my lifetime. I am 43. The Rich Rod debacle killed me at the time, I felt he was the answer. I had hoped for Saban, but I never thought he would come based on his statements. When Mr. Moore pulled that off, I was ecstatic. I had high expectations for CNS, but he exceeded my wildest dreams, AND I WAS DREAMING BIG. It has been a pleasure to watch him rebuild this program, to this level. No matter when he decides to retire, or leave to another program (God Forbid), I will always be a fan of his and extremely appreciative for all he has done. He re-established a STANDARD that had been missing since CB. If he continues (I CANNOT BELIEVE I AM SAYING THIS) he may surpass it. RTR!!!

  • I definately wanted Saban. I'll never forget my conversation with my barner friend in T'town the night of the '06 Iron Bowl. I suggested that the best choice was Saban if Shula was fired. He laughed and said "yeah, but Saban won't come to Alabama." I'm still laughing!

  • Honestly I didnt have him on map because he was in the NFL but once his name was mentioned I wanted him over anyone else. Rich rod was a way too close second though. Damn I can't believe it was even close in my mind. As for kines...lol I hope no one really wanted him to stick around as the hc.

Total honesty I had no clue how good Saban was when we were going after him. After his introductory pc I was in awe.

yeah, I don't think you read the post correctly. He meant Kines interim for a year after Price was dismissed.
Shula came in and retained Kines from Prices staff.

When RR was leaked to the whole world I was excited. He had done some great things at WV. But my excitement was more over the fact I thought someone was finally hired. I though it was strange that W&L kept posting Saban was going to be our coach. After the RR deal fell through and Mal decided to wait (for what seemed like forever)
    I knew Saban was happening.

  • He was my first choice, but I really did not think he would come. I still can't get over all of the people on these boards that wanted us to get Jim Grobe. I threw up in my mouth a little bit each time I saw his name mentioned.

  • I knew Saban was the best option out there just like I knew the yahoos who kept pushing the boom were full of BS. Still.... I didn't think we were going to be able to get him.
