  • I have different thoughts than most at this position.. Probably with good reason. So feel free to ignore.

Ely: if he is passed by Morris (or one of the freshmen) this Spring, he'll never play here, IMO. He can stay and enjoy the experience but if he wants to play, USF or UCF makes all sorts of sense.

Sims: again, I'm in the minority here but I prefer a line of succession where all candidates run the same offense. Further, if BS wants a professional future, dude needs to move to DB promptly. Not saying he has that ability, just saying it's his best chance.

Morris: we need to focus on this kid this Spring and get him ready to fill in for AJ in case of injury. Throw him into the deep end. If he swims, he is the presumptive favorite for 2014.

The Freshmen: all three need considerable size and strength improvement. I see red shirting all as critical.

Agreed and pretty much stated the same throughout the thread, especially where Sims is concerned. Long-term, it has to be one of the guys who can make throws. Best case scenario is what you stated: Morris proves capable and the trio get a redshirt year. Just haven't seen enough of him to think it's a certainty it will play out that way.

Bingo. Sims is a band aid/change of pace at QB. If teams prepared for the zone read before they play us, it wouldnt be nearly as effective and Blake just doesnt have a D1 arm, despite the myth that some people have tried to create about his having a cannon. Morris needs to step up this year as the backup, get some game experience, and see if he can hold off some of these talented freshman next year.

  • TR- what is your impression today of where Alec Morris stands as ready to move
up and seize the back-up role? He has the size and strength tangibles already, but
how about your take on his grasp of the intangibles, which will determine if he is
the man or not. Anyway, thanks for your observations. We have come to know
    that they are spot-on. RTR!

Well, I see now that you pretty much answered that just above (I was reading Page 1
    when I posted)...thanks again.

  • There used to be a term heard a lot called "football smart". AJ has it but i don't know who of the others have it, hopefully a couple of them. Time will tell. Football smart makes up for a lot of physical deficiences. A couple of examples of football smart comes to mind. Pat Trammel and Jay Barker. Both won NC's.

Tend to agree here, although not sure what to think on Sims to DB.

  • Give Del Rio a year to develop and look for a 6,4" QB with a gun and the smarts coming from his being around NFL QB's for years learning and watching film. I think he will eventually pass Bateman and Morris for the job. He will end up being the biggest suprise of 2013.
