Jeez, we're talking about Steve Spurrier, right? The same Steve Spurrier that gave us "Ray Goof", "You can't spell citrus without UT", "Peyton Manning came back for his senior year because he wanted to be the Citrus Bowl MVP for four years in a row", "At least the Vols achieved goal #5 on their list...they were Knox County champs", and other classics?

That's Steve Spurrier. If you think he's hilarious when he's making fun of teams we hate, you gotta be able to take it when he dishes it out at us. Don't take anything he says too seriously.

His best one was about there being a fire at the Auburn (pretty sure it was Auburn) football players' dorm and 20 books were consumed by the fire. The worst of it he said was that half of them hadn't been colored yet.

  • As others have said, he takes his shots, but, I usually take it as good natured ribbing.

I took his recent comments about us as complimentary. (He basically said you never know how good a class is until a few years down the road unless your Alabama and never miss).

Also, if you read his comments regarding Dabo and Lattimore, they seem a lot worse than listening to the audio. I think it was taken somewhat out of context. It was probably not a smart move, but, it was off the cuff and had no malice behind it.

    Some people are too sensitive.

  • If spurrier is making comments about you. And you're not his rival. It's a good thing. What he says is usually funny and it really is a compliment coming from him.

I'm not too sensitive, I just feel it was completely uncalled for, no matter if he was joking or not. If he wants to take shots at other teams then go ahead. But not when the other team is trying to show sympathy for a terrible injury that could possibly ruin the career of one of his own players. Just say you appreciate their kind words and move on, don't downgrade their comments, especially comments that were directed to lattimore, not spurrier. Time and a place, and that sure wasn't the right time.

  • I used to really like Steve "Superior" because he speaks his mind and is a damn good coach. However, he lost a lost respect from me the way he used up Lattimore. Running him 30-40 times a game is just not fair to ask from a RB in today's football. We now know that even the best backs only have so many hits they can take. And that SOB knows full well what I'm talking about. He destroyed the best RB to ever play for USC and what makes it even worse is after he got healthy from the first injury he started running him like that again. I will never respect him again for doing that.

There was a fleeting moment he could have had the Alabama job and he didn't take it. Probably has regretted ever since. The "anyone can win at Bama" is his way of feeling better bout a dumb choice to stay at program that can not go any further than he's taken it to date. Not jealousy as much as regret and frustration IMHO.

Quite a but of truth in this statement I think

I'll tell you what an SOB is...someone who makes baseless accusations like this without bothering to do a little homework. Jeez...you're a Bama fan, right? Act like one and try rubbing a few brain cells together.

This notion that Spurrier ran Lattimore 30-40 times a game is a huge myth, and frankly, I don't know why so many people buy into it. Steve Spurrier did no such thing. Three games in his career with over 30 carries. All you have to do is to do a little research. Here are his career carries.

2010: One game with 40 carries, one with 37, three more in the 20's, eight in the teens or single digits.
2011: One game with 30 carries.
2012 (the year Spurrier started "running him like that again"): 4 games between 20 and 25 carries, the rest under 15.

You don't like what Spurrier said, that's fine. Everyone's entitled to their own opinion about that. Just try to exercise a little intelligence and don't just parrot what you hear from some talking head or some blogger.

2010...21 carries per game (not counting FSU)

  • Spurrier just can't win with his style anymore. He has tried to use the Saban-method with running game/great defense. I know it drives him crazy that he can no longer win with the "Fun and Gun" and run up the score on folks like Mike Shula did to him in Columbia one year. Even Dubose beat em TWICE!

These events has him talking Bama, not CNS.

Its amazing to me how some people can look at the same numbers and come up with completely different conclusions. I worked with a PhD like you once who thought he understood statistics. He couldn't tell night from day. Anyway, to make my point more obvious, Marcus Lattimore was a freshman in 2010 and rushed for 249 times. As a FRESHMAN he led the SEC in carries. Same year Mark Ingram led us with 158 carries as a junior. When Lattimore got hurt half way through 2011 (Oct 15) he already had 163 carries. HALF WAY THROUGH the season. Last year with a recovering knee when every one said he wasn't quite back 100% that as*hole ran him for 143 times before he got hurt again on Oct 27 with 4 more games to play (5 if you count the bowl game). Yes, I think that's travesty. Yes, he ran him way too much. Yes, you need to analyze your own data a little closer before concluding anything.

You first were talking about lattimore running 30-40 tunes a game, he just pointed out that that is inaccurate. You have now changed your argument to total carries (which i agree is excessive, but they were winning doing it), seems like you can't tell night from day, or at least have difficulty following discussion

Ok, I never meant he averaged 30-40 but he had several games with that many. That's not very good for any RB. Its day time by the way.

What is Coach Spurrier's deal with making all these backhanded comments about Bama and Saban over the past few years? Is he butthurt because Saban demoted him on the all-time SEC coaches list or what is it?

Spurier is obviously eaten up with the fact that CNS has nearly made people forget about Spurrier's run of success @ Florida... THATS WHY!!!
