Steve Spurrior Jab at Saban

"He's got a nice little gig going, a little bit like (John) Calipari. He tells guys, 'Hey, three years from now, you're going to be a first-round pick and go.' If he wants to be the greatest coach or one of the greatest coaches in college football, to me, he has to go somewhere besides Alabama and win, because they've always won there at Alabama."

  • He's just mad because he found out real quick how lucky he was at Florida to have most the top high school athletes in your back yard. Little bit harder recruiting in south Carolina and it takes away from his golf game.

I'd call it a miracle. South Carolina's recruiting base was cannibalized for years by Clemson, Tennessee, Georgia, and others before Spurrier. He has built their recruiting base back from nothing and has made them a 9 to 11 win team year in and out. Something we have never seen in our lifetime. Holtz couldn't do it, Sparky Woods didn't even sniff it. Spurrier's coaching job at USCar is his best despite what his haters say about him. His job at Duke was probably his 2nd best effort.

I agree with the fact that Spurrier has done a nice job at USCe - this is an outstanding fanbase, but there is a legacy of simply finding ways to lose & be a substandard program over the years. With a down SEC East, Spurrier has done a nice job to make USCe a contender... Even if his best is not as good as Coach Saban's... I think it was a jab at CNS, but it's irrelevant really.

rlb, Just sent you a pm.

Make no mistake CSS can't say anything comlementary without it being backhanded. He just can't do it. He has one of those guys that will insult you in a positive way. What he said there was a shot at CNS. CSS cannot stand that his legacy at UF will pale in comparison to the one that CNS will have when he leaves UA.

Urban Liar already ruinned SOS's legacy at UF by winning two NCs. SOS thought he could win at any level and he failed in the NFL and has slightly turned around a USC team, but nothing anywhere close to what he had at UF. RTR.

  • Winning at FL is like winning at Tejas. Even I could coach and win a Natl' Champ' eventually.

  • my translation goes something like this...

CSS:" I am so tired of talking to the type of recruits South Carolina needs to get in order to compete at the level that Alabama is at and getting nowhere. I have NOTHING to offer them. I used to get some bonus points for being awesome at Florida but now that is fading. Saban has taken over the state of Alabama and Georgia. He is now making more head way into Louisiana and the Carolina's. I was hoping to retire with my SEC coaching legacy as one of the top coaches ever in the SEC but now I am settling for mediocore...It's not fair and Saban should go away...."

  • If you read the rest of the story from the article, he calls Saban the best coach in the SEC

This is exactly what I was thinking. Talk about resurrecting a program.
