TAMU 2013 = AU 2011

Regarding our loss to TAMU - that was just one of those games we appeared to be "due to lose" - whether it was the fumble that JM recovered in mid air and then threw to a wide open WR bc our defense was playing the fumble; or the 2 bombs that were under-thrown and shouldve been TD's or the pass that hit Bell in the chest and bounced off, only to be intercepted and run back to our 20... we just deserved to lose that game.

That being said - we will kick their ass this year! They will be processed. PERIOD

Breaking in a new offensive line I think we are much less effective on offense but we shut them down on D. I don't see us running away but I see us winning by 10 points with the game not really being in question by the 4th quarter.

I have thought for some time that A&M will have the same dropoff that auburn did after winning the BCSNC in 2010. I compared the two teams players lost and recent recruiting record and come up with the following:

    2011 AUBURN returning starters: 7 total (3 offense, 4 defense), 120th (last) in CFB, last in SEC Previous recruiting rankings 2011 #10 2010 #6 2009 #23 2008 #20 2007 #9 Average recruiting class: Ranked #13.6

Auburn Loses 24 seniors, additional 3 juniors declared for draft Auburn 2011 record 8-5 (with two extremely fortunate victories with Utah State and Miss State)

    2013 TAMU returning starters: 10 total (6 offense, 4 defense), tied for 112th, last in SEC Previous recruiting rankings 2013 #10 2012 #14 2011 #33 2010 #20 2009 #28 Average recruiting class: Ranked #21

TAMU loses 20 seniors, including 3 declared to draft

In addition, consider the importance of the players lost by TAMU this past season (Props to huskypup for posting this) Leading scorer at RB Christine Michael Leading scorer at WR in Ryan Swope More than 50% of WR scoring from last year(4 of top 5 starters) Likely #1 OT in the draft 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th, and 6th leading tacklers (7 of top 10) Top 5 leaders in Sacks Top 4 leaders in Tackles for loss Also lost starting center

So in summary, Auburn lost a few more seniors/starters, but had been recruiting better. I believe sumlin is a better coach than chiznik, but lets be honest here- they both caught lightning in a bottle (cam, manziel) and benefited massively as a result. Sumlin made a living off of being decent in Conference USA and had one good year before jumping to TAMU.

A&M has a joke of a schedule (7 guaranteed wins) and will drum the cream puffs on their schedule. But in the end, I see them losing to us, one of the Mississippi schools, and one between Arky, LSU, and Auburn (LSU game is late enough I think Miles has them playing well enough to win).

Texas A&M has had one magical year after decades of being mediocre. They cannot completely turn that around after one season. I think are not the juggernaut they have been made out to be.

    What do you think?

Yeah except no Newton back and yest to Manziel back......anaylsis fail

My view is that A&M is a sleeping giant. They've got a style of offense that puts up numbers and attracts recruits. Now, because of the SEC tag, they'll get the pick of the litter in Texas. Especially, with Texas down. Combine a quality coach, better recruiting, and deep pockets (facilities), their future is bright. I see them being in top 3 in West for a long time.

    Have to agree here.

And if cam newton came back they would have gone undefeated right?

And we beat UF in 2009 SECCG because GMAC was a better player than Tebow right?

And no matter how much talent TAMU loses, they will be unstoppable only because of JM?

There are 21 other positions on a team besides QB, even if they are very good.

With Cam, Auburn definitely doesn't lose 5 games. They would have still lost to LSU and Alabama, but the Georgia and Arkansas games would have been toss-ups. Clemson would have gotten their tails handed to them.

Texas A&M lost some players, but their offensive line won't be the dumpster fire you seem to be anticipating. It won't be as good as last year's, but they do return another potential 1st round pick at tackle. They'll be fine. Besides, the way JF plays it's not like he needs the greatest of offensive lines. The kid is quick as a cat, and should only be better next year. Their losses on defense will hurt, but that side of the ball isn't the strength of their team. They'll probably just beat some teams with the final score resembling a basketball score, much like last year.

Here's A&M's schedule, which is actually pretty weak.

    Rice
    Sam Houston State
    Alabama
    SMU
    @ Arkansas
    BYE
    @ Ole Miss
    Auburn
    Vanderbilt
    UTEP
    Mississippi State
    BYE
    @ LSU
    @ Missouri

I see two losses max, which is MUCH better than 2011 Auburn.

  • With that said, I do think we put a pretty big beat down on them at Kyle Field. Of course, I think we do that to a lot of teams next year.

  • I'm not buying that this kid can handle the success/high profile. I foresee a big sophomore slump

  • Sorry but this is stupid. Auburn lost their player that carried them to the championship. A&M has Manziel, gets Matthews back, and will have solid receivers. Not sure about their defense but they should do well again this year.

One HUGE difference between those teams - one is returning their Heisman Trophy winning QB, and the other did not.

the boogs lost Cam and *aU had not heart after Tubby's seniors left.

With Manziel and Jake Matthews back, plus a great stable of RB's and WRs, their offense will still be incredibly potent. I agree that their defense will see some drop off, but that offense is going to keep them in every single game. Their toughest game is against us, and while we have the whole offseason to prepare, so do they. I think we'll probably win, but don't underestimate that offense.

    This

We may in fact win convincingly, but aTm won't lose 5 games next season unless they have significant injury problems.
