TRips: Wednesday morning thoughts

Random thoughts and observations on a Wednesday morning ...

  • Good read TR, thanks!

  • The thing that really irks me about college basketball today is free throw shooting. Watching guys over 6'4" try to shoot free throws is becoming laughable.

    BreakingTheCap

  • Great write-up and perspective Travis. I agree with you re: Sanders, outside Clowney I always believed he was the most dynamic guy on their roster and always had the ability to flip the field in seconds.
The comments in general you made about basketball were spot on and as I've watched the acc crazies up here this season, your statement about no real recognizable names existing for teams does describe what much of the issue is. As saturated as I get with the acc news, daily, I can name one guy on each of Duke, NCSU, and UNC without looking them up...Mason Plumlee, James Michael McAdoo, and CJ Leslie respectively.

  • i hear ya on the lack of names

when i was in high school i swear i could do a 1st-3rd team all american list off the top of my head, back in the glen robinson, ed obannon, donyell marshall, etc.. days

its a combination of the nba draining the talent and my drop in interest level i guess

  • So sad about the May kid. I didn't know him, but had been to his family's office and knew people who did know him. I can't imagine losing a kid, and I don't even have one.

  • Good stuff Travis, always enjoy this feature. I agree on Sanders' departure and effect it will have as well as Minter, overlooked player all season imo.

  • Nice shout out to the Mays. War Eagle.

  • I tried to watch Bama/UT on Sat. & I ended up just turning the TV off. LOL...pretty bad when the TV goes off on a Sat when it's pouring rain outside.

Mid-range game in general is pretty much a thing of the past. It's either a 3 or rim run. Same for HS now too. Was at a game last night and neither team could make much from 15 feet but they were pretty good from 20. Four dunks in the game, so the crowd loved it.

  • Lakers- although not looking good, starters have played only 119mins together this season

Ellington is a very good all-purpose guy but Sanders gave them balance in that regard. They have some talented young guys and their quarterbacks should make those guys better.

As for hoops talent, I'm an ACC snob who is pretty much in the same boat as yourself. I can name a handful of guys for Duke, but not many for the rest of the league. College hoops has always been more about the coaches (Knight, Smith, K, Pitino, Cal, etc...) but I can't recall the star power being reduced to almost nil.

Yeah, but I agree with Kobe: they just look old. Sort of the Yankees of the NBA.

Big blow. Always seemed to have a smile on his face. Tragic for a number of reasons.

Got better in the second half but considering that the first half was atrocious, that wasn't hard to do. Ha! If the guards for both teams can't make shots tonight, put the kids to bed early. This one might be NC-17. The kid from Montgomery for State (Sword) is coming off a couple of nice games. SEC freshman of the week.

Where can I read your top 10 2013 prediction you eluded to that was released earlier this week?

    Travis,
If you can't or don't want to I understand, but can you share any more about how this happened? I looked online but the TNews article said they weren't releasing any more details. I am an avid hunter and am constantly trying to educate younger hunters on the dangers and how to be safe.

  • Just got a call from Te'o's dad.......it appears that after the Minter comment, they are blacklisting BOL from any future interviews.

  • I am afraid that the rampant drug curse in our secondary schools is the cause of the darth of basketball talent coming from schools that formerly produced good hoops players for colleges. With H selling for $15 a pop and readily-available everywhere, many lives are being wasted........truly sad.

Probably not my place to say for a couple of reasons. Just continue to educate young people and those new to hunting! In an instant multiple families can be altered forever.

Yep. Everyone remembers the highlight reels of Jordan's dunks and razzle-dazzle layups, but he scored the majority of his points off of his mid-range game.

Looking at some of the mock drafts after the BCS game, Mr. Te'o is going to have a lot of blacklisting to do. Ha! All joking aside, he's a nice player who should have a solid pro career. NFL better suited to his style of play than what he saw against UA.
