TRips: Where are they now?

  • Travis

    2 things:

I still remember the display Winston put in 2004 starting with that away MSU game that helped us upset them and sort of turn out season around.

Also I wish I could go back in time and help Vaz safely navigate his way out of the batting cage prior to the CWS. you think he might have helped with hitting and saving our pitching staff?

I remember being out at a UA spring practice the day UA beat MSU in Starkville. A bunch of us sort of looked at each other and said, "Really?"

Agreed on Vaz. That was a tough break for UA literally and figuratively. Vaz was so good in 1997 you forget he was only there for one season. And I think he hit like second in that lineup. Had some real bombers on that club.

I was watching at home and was so excited because I had signed my LOI to play at Bama, one of my first practices an older gentlemen stopped on my walk to the field telling me I had big shoes to fill as I came in to play 2nd base afte Joe

That older gentleman was correct, but you did alright for yourself. (g) Do you keep in touch with any of the guys from those teams like Gulledge?

Thanks, probably could have been higher in career numbers had I stayed for senior year but we make choices

A little, Gulledge and I used to talk some. I was in Derek Wiggintons wedding last year and John Blakenship lives here in Tampa but we have not talked much. I enjoy going back to see the guys and my wife played softball same time I was there so we get to catch up a good bit back in T town

  • Brings back old memories. I believe Vaz played for Huntsville Stars in AAball. Played Mobile Baybears in championship of that league. Cant remember what year it was but i was at final game when Bay Bears won the league and Vaz in a nice HR in that game. Recovered the ball and got him to sign it after the game. {for my 10 yr old kid of coarse} Still have it today. KOOL>>>

Cool little story. Thanks for sharing. I didn't really put 2&2 together on your ID until that comment. I am biased towards Caruso, but you were a hell of a ball player in your time at UA, as well. Love to get more stories about your time on the team and more input on the state of the program. Shoot me a PM and lets exchange emails.

It seemed that Joe had good following, I just wanted to create my own during my time
