in Mexico....
So I am in Punta Mita Mexico at a business-vacation trip with 50 other employees from all over the country --- I am from Johnson City TN.
The fellow used to play offensive guard at LSU about 20 years ago and still lives and works in that area. So I wanted to ask how the LSU faithful really felt about CLM and CNS. I figured a short and sweet answer ----- but no way. The conversation was at least 20-25 minutes. He is still involved with the program in some capacity.
The short version is this. He likes CLM. He says he is a nice guy and good for their program. He also stated that CLM recruits well - does good things for the school ---------------but he will never be a CNS, work like CNS, grind through everyone like CNS and win the big games like CNS.
He further went on to say that CNS was often an asshole ---- but when he was at LSU - at least he was their asshole and the biggest mistake they ever made is when everyone knew he was going to leave Miami - that the LSU powerbrokers did not go down there and pay him whatever he wanted and bring him back.
He also said that (and we all know this) that CNS will grind through coaches and that will always be the case - however the reward will be high and that he has more than just a system ----- but that he has a proven metrology that no one wants to do ----- and that is and this is a direct quote -----"he will flat out ---- out work you, your team, the media, his own coaches and even his own players."
He closed by saying ---- he is the best fu**in college football coach in America - period.
Sweet!
On a golfer note --- if you are ever down here play the golf course of a life time "Pacifico" and it has a hole on it that is an island. You can only play that hole at low tide to get to the green and you are hitting into a strong wind and from the back tees - it is about 200 yards or so. I had to hit a 5-wood too just carry the water and rocks and I usually hit a 5 wood about 220 - 240 or further depending on the wind.
Anyway - Roll Tide --- even in Mexico.....si

Great post.
On a related note - I was thinking the other day about how good this program is, and the proof is in how our rivals and top detractors talk about CNS. Have you ever noticed....they don't say "he'll eventually stop winning"??
It's ALWAYS "CNS will eventually get bored and ___________." (either retire to the lake, go coach in the NFL again, go rebuild another major program like Texas, etc.) They fully understand that once this train got rolling, it wasn't stopping until we stopped it ourselves. And we aren't stopping for anyone.

Good post. Let me also say that you live in a beautiful part of the world my friend. My wife and I are from south Alabama, but we moved to Johnson City when I accepted a sales job with a national company. We lived off of Carrol creek rd for a little over a year before transferring back home. Our daughter was actually born there, and we can't wait to get back for a visit.

Interesting comments from the LSU guy, but someone should ask him this:
1. If Saban really grinds through coaches, why do we have very little turnover, and why do coaches come back and work for him a second time? 2. If he really likes Miles, but says that the LSU power brokers screwed up by not going to get Saban when he wanted to come back to college, then what he's saying is that Miles should have been fired...right before Miles won the BCS. Miles had just gone 22-4 in two years, with utter beatdowns of Miami and Notre Dame in the ChikFilA and Sugar Bowls...and then went on to win the national championship in 2007...but the player says that MIles should have been fired after 2006 and they should have hired Saban. Even though he likes Miles. Makes zero sense. But, then again, he's an LSU guy, so that's not surprising.
