Technical suggestion/request for the 247 network

  • This request is seriously nerdy, and fairly small, but it would really improve usability on the mobile framework.

On the mobile version of the site, doing upvotes or downvotes invokes a server postback. I know the 247 network already uses a good bit of ajax/jquery functionality in other parts of the site, I'm wondering if they couldn't extend it to that portion of the mobile site as well for a more streamlined experience.

It'd be really nice to not have to wait for a server postback and subsequent page refresh just for doing an upvote. Especially since mobile networks are generally slower.

Sorry, had to unleash the inner software developer in me.

  • That is a good suggesting. That is the way we currently do it on the full site. I will look into integrating this to the mobile site as well.

    Thanks for the suggestion.

  • Ever notice how the downvotes take a click and a confirmation click yet people always say the accidentally downvoted on their phone. What is that all about?

    BamaTusks

  • This confirmation was something we added in recently. Now if they say that, they have to be joking...sarcasm

I asked Lucky for AJAX voting on the mobile site a while back but didn't get a direct response. It seems totally backwards to me to require a pageload only on the platform with lower speeds, longer page draws, and often limited bandwidth.

Of course, if it were up to me, the whole site would be AJAX and transmitted in JSON, probably using Backbone...my experience with these kinds of things has been that the guy in charge will say "well, that would be nice if we get the chance, but here's a list of bugs and features that more directly impact our users, so put it on the backburner".

Wanted to bump this for you guys. We have the ajax voting on mobile now, as well as ignore and follow on user profiles. We will be looking to do it some more.

Also, we added a board dropdown on mobile. This will promote easier navigation between sites. More dropdowns to come.......

Awesome news and thank you taking the time to make less noticeable but still important code changes.

  • How about a board just for technical issues with the 247 network. Not saying there are a lot though.

On the same hand, does anyone know why I keep getting script errors while on site? I'm using a Kindle Fire. Can someone help me out? TIA.

When did this go into effect? Last night I started having trouble on mobile that has persisted through today with page formatting, course I don't speak the language so I have no idea if the two things would even be remotely related....

We pushed code at midnight and were back online around 2am this morning. We are still working few a few issues. What pages are you having formatting issues with?

  • When I try and load threads from the roundtable, sometimes they take a long time to load and when they do they look raw, no sigs, no banner, no boxes separating comments and users, just very large text. Also been having trouble with the main page off and on for a while, can't scroll the main topics or select them, have to go to the boards to navigate to them.

  • Is anyone else clicking on the green envelopes and it doesn't go to the last thing you read? Mine is just going to the first post in the thread.

I click "last post" to do the same thing and yeah lately it just goes to the top of the page.
