Lots of people on this board seem to think UT wants Kirby, JMO but if they let Dooley go I see no way they try another unproven head coach. They will pony up the bucks and go after a name coach IMO. They tried Lame and Dooley and it has set them back 5-10 years. I just see no way they go that route again.

I agree & if UF doesn't have a very good year I'm sure the vol fans will not want another Coach Saban assistant with no head coaching experience as their new coach.

I think Coach Sal's impact this year is being overstated. They had a highly regarded DC last year, but he bolted. Sal has never even been a DC, so I'm sure he will have some growing pains, and their talent level on defense isn't nearly what it is on offense. Plus, I believe they will be switching up the type of defense they run, which will also come with some growing pains. I don't think UT's defense has been poorly coached, I think think they are "poorly talented".

i agree that UT's offense is ahead of their defense as far as talent. but every team will have one side better than the other at some point. i think they have talent on D just no depth. so yes NC state is a big game but they can't have any injuries on the D side this year. and if you look at their D staff as a whole it really is a good staff and Sal has picked these guys himself. so from a coaching standpoint i think Sal is ahead of the curve and therefore i don't think you can overstate his impact this year.

  • I agree, they'll be better, but remember they were 5-7 last year and just flat out quit at the end of the year. They'll be able to throw the ball all over the field, but have struggled to run the ball under Dooley. You can't be one dimensional in the SEC, and TN doesn't have a RB that scares anyone.

We'll know all we need to know about TN well before October as 3 of their 1st 5 games are against N.C. State (in Atlanta), Florida, and @ Georgia. If they lose all 3 of those, don't be shocked if Sal is the HC by the time they play us.

  • The only possible outcome for Tennessee that would surprise me this year would be if they brought back The Great Pumpkin after they fire Dooley.

And bring back Randy Sanders to be the OC.

And hire Ted Roof to be the DC.

  • Meaning, they will likely catch UGA off guard.....which for me would be hysterical. It's so easy to poke fun at the puppies and I'm surrounded by them.

They had a banner year in 2011. Survived in what would have to be considered a very weak SEC East, a down year for sure. Got smacked in the SEC Championship game and lost to a Big 10 team. So what you have is a baloney sandwich. Two losses.....a bunch of mediocre wins and two more losses. The best four teams they played last year....all losses.

BRING BACK Richt.....sign him up for 10 more years.

I'm not saying they're going to beat us but think about it.

They return like 20 of 22 starters. They add Cordarelle Patterson (who is 6'4 and runs a 10.89 100m and probably somewhere in the low 4.5 to high 4.4 range) to their receiving core along with DaRick and Justin Hunter. Their OL should be much improved. Defense should be much improved under Sunseri. The only thing they are missing is an RB that is worth a damn.

I think TN will be a tougher opponent than Auburn and perhaps the 2nd toughest game on our schedule outside of LSU.

Look at their OL. Many had Dallas Thomas as a top 5 OT in this next draft yet they slid him inside to make way for Tiny Richardson. We missed out on JaWuan James who is another starter on their OL. I've seen some pics of Daniel McCullers and he looks more than capable of anchoring the NT spot in their 3-4.

Their weakness is going to be in their secondary which I think we expose with ease.

Yeah they should be better , but so should Florida. Georgia will be good, south Carolina has a pretty good team, and vandy is getting better.
