Very good article Chris. The amount of talent that CNS has recruited and developed over the years is incredible. I agreed with essentially all your choices, with the exception of Spears over Dareus. Flozell losing out to Barrett is another close one in my mind, due to the success Flozell had in the NFL, but I'd give the nod to Barrett.

Ok, about the two players you mentioned:

Travis Daniels was a fourth-round draft pick by Miami. He made 26 starts at LSU and had just two interceptions. heck of a player, but I give the nod to Dre Kirkpatrick.

If I add the nickel back next year, I'll offset it with Plaxico Burress as the third receiver.

Burress set a Big Ten Conference single-season record by catching 65 passes in his first season at Michigan State in 1998. He ranks third in career touchdown catches (20), third in receptions (131), and fourth in receiving yards (2,155) in just two seasons with the Spartans.

Last year I had to make the very tough call between Julio Jones and Burress, who was the eight-overall pick in the 2000 draft, and I went with Jones because he played an extra year and due to his blocking. But it was oh-so-close.

So Julio was good enough to be selected in the final two AND honorable mention!!! I like it!

Very tough call, but yes. LSU went 20-3 his two years as a starter. He threw for 3,129 yards, 28 touchdowns and eight interceptions his second season when he was named first-team All-SEC.

He was considered a better pro prospect, but McElroy threw for more yards won more games and had the best passer rating. Here was the clincher for me, though: Not only did McElroy lead to the national championship he was the MVP of the SEC title game. Russell lost in the SEC Championship Game to Georgia. His biggest win was arguably being the MVP of the Sugar Bowl against Norte Dame in his final game.

As for Marcell Dareus, which one of the four guys do you take out? If I remember right, he was never named an All-American. His best chances was his junior year and he was suspended at the start of the season.

Finally, yes it was supposed to be Plaxico Burress instead of Julio Jones in the honorable mention. Thanks.
