In 1986 (roughly) Alabama was ranked #3 and had what was reputed to be the fastest defense in the history of the world. Penn State came to town and ran the ball down our throats. They beat us something like 26 to 3. Things haven't changed that much since then, so our fairly quick and much more physical offensive line should be able to run the ball down LSU's throat.

But it that doesn't work, it will come down to quarterback play. First, AJ has proved to be exceptional at calling the right play, particularly in the running game. Together with the superiority of our offensive line, this makes me think that we can run the ball on LSU. Second, if AJ has to win the game with his arm, it is clear that AJ has a better arm than either of LSU's qbs. The question is whether he will make bad decisions and throw interceptions if he has to throw the ball.

Third, as much grief as the various message boards have given Jim McElwain, the one thing we can't accuse him of is having quarterbacks who throw too many interceptions. AJ has a better arm than any quarterback we've had in a while, and I think we can depend on McElwain to put AJ in a position to win the game with his arm if necessary.

In order for us to win, i think AJ may need to have a truly breakout game. This is a big question mark, but I think CJM may be the coach who will prepare him to do it.
