The school is going to be sued for hundreds of millions of dollars. They are going to be punished on top of this.

problem is, most universities have immunity. you have to sue the players individually and, normally, that may get you $1,000,000. maybe the victims can find away in PA around this "cap" and get $1m per person involved. who knows? I do know that $60 million is likely more and will go a farther at helping victims of abuse (we hope).

  • I'm surprised by the number of people lining up to come to the defense of Penn St. If they have a problem with the sanctions they are able to defend themselves.

However, the victims of the actions from their athletic department and University were unable to defend themselves.

It amazes me as well...I can't comprehend the bleeding hearts.

Penn st asked that the punishment be done this way.

Starting to sound like they didn't have a choice. It was sign away your rights and agree or get the death penalty.

  • Was listening to an expert on NCAA bylaws and he said that the NCAA stepped out of their bounds of authority on this issue and sites the bylaws emeritt is trying to use and explained why emeritt is wrong. Then he also said why he understood they had to do it from a pr stand point.

Agreed. They had to do something and Penn State agreed. 4 people ruined that institution and Bill O'brien, Silas Redd, etc have to pay for it. Hell, Graham Spanier is still a free man. He's not even getting punished for the ordeal.

  • People on here have opinions. It doesn't matter what anyone says, what happend is what happened. This is not a legal proceeding but an agreement between Penn State and the NCAA. I don't know why everyone is crying when Penn State agrees and accepts the penalties.

Nobody is crying. Graham Spanier is not being held accountable. And also quotes like this:

"Michael Buckner, a Florida lawyer who specializes in NCAA enforcement cases, said Penn State deserves to be sanctioned but worries about a "slippery slope" of changing punishment procedures without approval from the full membership.

"I've talked to some member institutions and they're very concerned for this reason: What behavior is now under the jurisdiction of the NCAA?" Buckner said. "According to how the NCAA reacted, it's open-ended now. It depends on whether there's enough public pressure and President Emmert feels like he needs to take action. If that's the standard, that's not really an appropriate standard."

"No matter what, this (Penn State ruling) will always have people questioning why or why not the NCAA got involved. But we have the same questions now with the enforcement process, and I think this will just expand that paradigm."

This thing is far from over. Schultz and Curley haven't even gone to trial yet. Many experts think that there is a high probability that Spanier will be indicted. Wouldn't surprise me to see Schultz and Curley implicate him, especially if it lessens their sentence.
