"They’re selecting them."

  • SIAP - from ESPN's Chris Low:

"Still, Chizik’s issues run much deeper than simply trying to salvage this season.

That “other” school in the state of Alabama is dominating college football right now and has a head coach that is driven beyond belief. The Crimson Tide aren’t recruiting players under Nick Saban. They’re selecting them.

Not only that, but Saban has a pretty fair track record of developing those players, which explains why Alabama has won two of the last three national championships and is ranked No. 1 again this season.

Saban casts a long shadow across that state, which even for a coach like Chizik who won a national championship of his own two years ago, can create impossible odds."

  • To make things even worse for Auburn, it appears Trooper Taylor has been sidelined by the NCAA from going on the road and recruiting. When is the last time Trooper has visited a high school game to watch a player in person? The last one I can think of was to watch his son in Auburn. Can't think of any others...Where is he going this weekend? Just a question...Does anyone know the answer?

Just because a team is in the wonderful position of being able to select certain players here and there doesn't at all mean your going to get everyone you - Would Select. shrug

But, Yeah....he would be another nice weapon to have mixed into our defense. No doubt about it. They knew it too and went after him as such.

If you really think about it, we haven't seen the guy anywhere outside of Auburn for some time. It's just a simple question.lol

Clowney wanted to be a 4-3 DE. If we ran a 4-3 he'd be here.

Same story with alot of DE's we recruit... Not going to change an obviously dominating defensive scheme to land a couple of players. If they dont like a hybrid 3-4 then thats their loss. i think its worked out well for everyone.

we are in a 4- down front about 70-75% of the time. our base is 3-4 but if we are in nickel or dime pakages we have 4 down up front. FYI.

    nickel 4-2-5
    dime 4-1-6

No matter what defense we ran or South Carolina ran, he was going to South Carolina. The school he plays for is a "South Carolina" school. He has teammates from his hs already their playing football.

Just shows the ignorance of most people about this "mysterious 3-4". As you pointed out, the vast majority of the time that Jack is a defensive end rushing the passer. In the rare occasions where Clowney would have been in coverage he would have just increased his draft status if he could do it successfully. win/win

That's irrelevant. We're not a 4-3 base team. He wanted to be a true 4-3 DE. This is straight from his own mouth. Do I need to dig up the quote for you?
