Simple advice from a man in his 50s: do not get one.

If you are in your 20s, spend the money on something useful--furniture, appliances, etc.--or even better, save it.

If you feel you absolutely must spend money on something, and you are over 30 and a little mature, think of how much a first rate tattoo costs. Then go to a gun store and buy a gun instead. Like a tattoo, if you are so inclined, you can show it to your friends. However, unlike a tattoo, if you grow tired of it, you can sell it and recoup your investment. In fact, over time, it will be worth more than you paid for it if you properly care for it.

Were my father alive, this is the advice he would give me, and he was rarely wrong about anything.

If in prison and it helps prevent people from shanking you then get the tat.

If you plan on otherwise being successful in life it will be in spite of the tattoo not because of it.

Was going to say that for some on here it takes a liitle more nerve to actually have a real pic or put themself out there for everyone besides having a few sigs they got off the internet, there are a few nice ladies as sigs that I do like though so they can stay.
